I also kinda want aged chrome stuff if it's available. It's an old body, so I should at least get old looking stuff, or actual old stuff. Guitars that are made from a random mix of parts are great. I was just recently told that the bridge and saddles on my Tele are G&L and the screws that hold them in place and allow height adjustment are from the 60s or 70s. It's a really, really weird thing, but it's darn cool.

BTW: I do love that photo. I think you should email it to Henry Juszkiewicz, just for shucks.

I know what you mean, there is a certain destructive beauty to it. But really it's just my inept attempt at taking a photo of a fire in the dark.

If anyone here has Mr. Juszkiewicz' email address I'll gladly send him a copy. And post the reply here and on the Gibson boards. Or indeed Mr Juszkiewicz is free to reply here. I think he's a mightily misunderstood person. I'd happily converse with him just to get into his thoughts.

Anyway it's only the same as him smashing up a SG at the Firebird X' promo. Cept this looked a lot prettier (especially when the flashing blue lights arrived) and didn't need a fanfare.

OT...well somewhat, how about Ceri building a Tele with a couple of strat pickups and the Tele bridge? And maybe an arm and belly cutout? Would be interesting to see Ceri's take on one like that.

FWIW

Ceri, are you willing to undertake a new project for our enjoyment? You were the first to sign the petition after all. If you're serious, let's do this thang. From scratch, like the last one.

I'd give him my body to see what he can do.

I would love to follow another Ceri build, but only when The Master is ready.

Looking forward to it Ceri as always. Infact its implied. I take it it's an implied yes from Doc, Martian, Andy, Nutter, Orcist and pretty much anyone else who was floating around the last time.

Well, the last one wasn't quite from scratch; more of a light repair job. ( :| ) But the next one will be raw timber upwards. Hmm. Sounds like I'd better get my backside down my local tonewood supplier and see what's to be had...

[Later]

So, what did I buy? Well, amongst many other things, here's some nice flamey maple, good for bodies or necks:

Image

The flame doesn't really pop till you get some finish on there, but cut into neck blanks you can just get a hint of what it might be like:

Image

Or. Here's one corner of the tonewood warehouse (it's Bob Smith's place, for insiders). You can see some thin planks standing upright against the back wall:

Image

One of them looked interesting, so I brought it home -

Image

- chopped it up -

Image

- ran it through the thicknessing machine -

Image

- and presto -

Image

Image

Whadayaknow? Some tasty birdseye. Just goes to show, you've got to have your eyes peeled when you're rooting around at the back of dusty warehouses. Never know what gems are hiding there.

Meantime, from another tonewood supplier, what's this?

Image

(The gin is just to make the flame stand out a bit and was in no way for recreational purposes. Judge, your honor...)

And here's another lump of maple. Amazingly, this tonewood supplier (Dave Dyke, for those as know) sold this as "plain", priced accordingly. That's the high standards of the man: this is at least grade AA, to my eye; maybe AAA:

Image

(That's my planing machine, putting a right-angle working edge on the plank.)

So. Some stuff to think about.

Don't start holding your breath yet, cos you'll suffocate. I'm not going to start a new thread till I have my ducks in a row and also have time to devote to it without interuptions. Which ain't yet. Be patient.

But meantime, I like the specs suggestions. Feel free to dream up spec sheets and post them. I shall almost certainly do something different than people come up with... because there just might happen to be a plan.

But speculate happily! :D

Cheers - C

EDIT: oops, dumb speeling mistocks

I'm a little new here and didn't see the first one, but do you mean to keep us all in on the process? If so add my name to the list! I love seeing master craftsman making master instruments. I once saw this documentary (slightly off topic alert) of the making of a major brand grand piano and was riveted.....I'd love a peek into the process!

Mr Ceri, I too would be delighted to see another build thread added to my infamous listing! I am tempted to ask for a marmite-coloured Tele.... ;-)

Oh, @dreilly: MORE COWBELL. 8)

Cheers folks. At last a thread I can relate to.
