Hi guys,

Relatively new to the guitar world so get ready for rookie questions and basic knowledge :P.

I have recently received a new American Ash Deluxe strat [Maple] 2010 model , and love everything about it.

My question is;

(Amplifier settings: EQ's set to 'Bass=7' 'Middle=6.5' 'Treble=3' )

When selecting the S1 switch on and the switch position to 5 I get very low volume compare to the other position's with the most notable being 1 and 2.

I see that the Treble is down on my settings but it shouldn't make that much of a difference right?

Maybe it's just a quieter setting I am not sure, but I look forward to your advice.

~All the best,

Alex

If the guitar pickups are focusing certain frequencies. For example like the neck pickup focus's on mid scoop and less treble. The bridge pickup focus's on lots of treble and high mids.
Having extreme settings on your amps eq will allow it to boost certain frequencies. However if those frequencies are not present because of the sound selected at the guitar. The guitar will sound quieter than if the guitar were set for frequencies more in line with what the amp wants to do.

You need to look at the Control Description sheet that hopefully came with your guitar. If you didn't get one there's a bunch available at the Support tab above. Keep in mind that when discussing position 1 etc. that Fender reversed the way they describe the positions, meaning 1 used to be the neck and is now the bridge. Having the sheet won't change the sound but it will help you understand the settings better. As Niki said, if you're choosing the neck pu, which is normally less bright and you roll off the treble on the amp, you're going to get what you asked for, a softer sound. I have an HSS, I don't know if the settings are the same for your guitar but here's my control sheet for a reference.

I have that sheet which helped me descibe the problem correctly. It just sounds too quiet to me.

That seems right to me, if the mid pup is RWRP. Pos 5 with S1 engaged puts the mid and neck in series, and if they are out of phase with each other would result in a reduced output compared to either one alone.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.
