I love everything about the MIA Deluxe. The feel, playability, looks, pickups. Only thing on them I don't need is the S-1 system. Fender can keep that fancy stuff!

Shouldn't be too hard to find that same axe online for around 1,200 bones. Very nice guitar. I wouldn't trade my 60th anniversary HSS for anything!

I have exactly that and I am looking to sell it. Bought in 99 they retail for around $1500.00 (at least I verified that the version I have would go for that) Hardly used, always gravitated back to my acoustic. I am asking $1300 (because it is PRISTINE) but I will negotiate a reasonable offer. Name's Mansel and I live in TX. Just respond to this post and I'll get an email confirm

Wow! What a bargain! One post here and you are willing to part with a vintage bought in '99 model for the same price as a new one because you polished it? Nice goin'! Good luck with that!

Here's my deluxe, 2006 model I think, in Candy Tangerine. Photos never do this color justice- its a gorgeous colour. It has the SCN's and S1 switch- some people don't like these pickups too much but that aren't bad- I like them a lot. I personally don't think I'd change a thing on it- the only thing I would perhaps say is try an HSS model, you get more versatility :)

FWIW:

The chap at the next desk to me plays professionally (and makes good money remarkably). He's got a 70's strat which I think he's had from new, and several others.

He reckons the deluxes he's played tend to have nicer necks than other strats.

Not lore obviously, but another data point from someone with long term strat experience.

I have 2 from 2007 with the SCN pups (one Im pictured with on the left) and yes the medium jumbo feels different from the jumbo frets (I also own Jeff Beck Strats) but the feel of the neck is king 2 me. As for tones Im able 2 dial in what I want 2 hear even though some on this forum say u dont get vintage strat tones. I'd recommend the American Deluxe against everything in the same price range.

Hi all and happy new year 2012 !

I tried a 2011 american deluxe strat yesterday and was amazed by that guitar. I need one and plan to order the v-neck version next week.

I just red about new pickups on the 2012 version, is that confirmed ? May be I should wait for the NAMM announcements, but that might be hard...

You could always spend a bit more and go for the Custom Shop Custom Deluxe, as I did. It has Master Design single-coil pickups rather than the N3s and doesn't doesn't have the S-1 switching or the compound radius neck, but it does have amazing finish and detailing and the most beautiful bird's eye maple neck.

Mine's in aged 3 tone sunburst and it's simply great. I love it.

Borrowed this from lindseyp to make a point. Bugs me why the factory can't standardize the process for the 3SB finish so they all look like this. Too many of 'em have that horrific red band in them and too much of a yellow field. This is the way my old '58 looked [before CBS-Fender blew mine away] and I prefer it to all the other reincarnations of that finish seen across the years. I'd love it just like that, with a solid maple 21 fret neck.

The only reason I did not buy a 2 or 3 color burst is because of the inconsistency. I have seen too many horrific examples of the burst and since I would be ordering sight unseen I did not want to take a chance,

That being said, I did order a Tobacco Burst and feel like I got lucky. I looks great!

Choosing my 2nd Stratocaster was really difficult. I could choose anything in Fender's current American Lineup.

Since I already had an amazing FSR Ltd. Ed. '57 Stratocaster,

Image

I decided to choose one which was as different as possible from my '57 so I didn't end up with a pair that mirrored each other.

Instead of an AVRI I decided on a 'Modern' Strat.

Instead of an Alder body I decided on Ash.

Instead of a Maple FB, I chose Rosewood.

Instead of a painted body, I chose a Trans finish.

And on and on...

Going through Fender's catalog, the one I came up with that matched my criteria was a 2014 American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster in Aged Cherry Burst.

Image

It is so different from the Vintage RI, but just as amazing !

The Fit & Finish is spot-on. The Compound Radius Neck is great ! I love the N3 noiseless pickup tone (esp. w/ the S1 Switching options).

It plays great, sounds great, looks great, stays in tune remarkably.

Overall, it's just as quality an instrument as my '57, but in very different ways.

IMHO, it's a lot of guitar for the money and you just won't go wrong with one.

cheers!
