I don't know anything about the American Deluxe version, but I am really digging the color of it, based on the picture of it. Amber colored alder wood body, rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, etc...etc...

It's a sweet looking Strat, but for $2000 bucks?

Yes, I have an American Deluxe with ash body and tobacco sunburst. I like it, but still prefer to play my mims. Maybe, that will change in time though. The compound radius neck on the American is the best part of owning it, but like I said I still dig the 9.5 and 7.5 radius on my mims.

Good luck!

had mine for 14 months now.....it's a 9/10 assy.
amazing build for the $ !!(consider what else IS available in that pricerange)
gets played quite a bit and is an absolutely "issue free" guitar.
the tones in standard mode ARE a bit thicker than i'm used to on a strat, but the S-1 button produces some seriously GREAT twisted tones.....twisting the tone way down on the out of phase neck p-up and it's like a built in wah....bring the tone back up & it's like increasing stages of boost as you flip the switch down!!
I installed the multi-setting trem blocker unit on it...and it's as solid as anything I own

I have an American Deluxe HSS on order from St. John's Music up here in Winnipeg. I placed the order May 14th. I am one week from 6 months waiting. Seeing all these pictures, and the glowing praise makes the wait even more difficult. I ordered a 3-colour sunburst. They got in a tungsten model just a few weeks ago and I gave it a once over, but I am holding out for the one I ordered. I have seen the sunset metallic, that is an amazing colour.

Fender are going to release the New Fender Americcan Deluxe Strat in January 2012. There might be upgrades to the new model. There are rumors going around that the pickups are going to be upgraded. It may be better waiting until January before you purchase. :)

I bought that guitar at Kat's Guitar in Houston. It is a half music store and half pawn shop. They usually have some good music equipment, plus the largest selection of pickups in Houston, and guns too.

Here is my 1998 American Deluxe Fat Strat Locking. The term "Fat Strat" was used back then to describe what they now call HSS. The colour is transparent purple (more like wine) (ash) and as far as I know this colour has never been available again since 1999. The pups are stock (DH1, VN, VN) but I swapped out the ugly mint green scratch plate (green and purple, ewww, Fender what were you thinking?) for this cream moto one and put on a set of Tele style knobs. This is my #1. It's the only AD Strat I ever saw equipped with satin finish Schaller tuning machines. Any other Fender I ever saw with Schaller lockers were bright chrome (nickel).

The American Deluxe pictured below was sold off a few years ago. It is a 2004 so it has Samarium Cobalt pups which I did not like as much as the VNs. I bought this guitar as a backup guitar for the stage in case anything went wrong during a gig. It was prettier than my #1 but it never quite measured up in terms of magic. I was never quite able to put my finger on exactly why it didn't measure up but when it came time to cull the herd this one got the axe.

Image

The 2000 American Deluxe Tele below (trans crimson/alder) is an amazing guitar with all the spank and bite you could ever want in a Tele. I will never sell this guitar.

I bought all three guitars brand new.

Nice Red Tele!

I had a Amber AM Deluxe HS Strat which was a beautiful guitar. The tone was not for me and I traded it.Two years ago I had a RIC 360 on order and a friend of mine at local music store called me and said I want you to try a guitar. So I walked In and he handed me a new Strat Am Strat Deluxe tri colour with rosewood fret board. It was pretty but honestly I was not looking for another strat.I was a previous Tele owner and in my mind if i was going to by another Fender it would be another Tele.

After an hour later of paying this guitar through small to larger amps I had to have the guitar. This guitar looked great, build quality was as good or better than my gibsons. But he guitar had Soul. The harder I played it the better it sounded with great playability.

Fender production guitars are great.I had an American Tele that I regret selling to this day.The American Deluxe is really a great guitar for the money. For a production guitar the quality is fantastic. I found a guitar that really caught me of guard and is a pleasure play.

I would certainly recommed one.

If you're okay with the prior version of the Am Deluxe (SCN pickups instead of N3's, abalone dot markers, no compound radius neck), you might want to check out a Best Buy store that has musical instruments. Our local Best Buy (Glen Burnie, MD) has them marked down to $1119 and I did see an amber SSS Am Deluxe with rosewood neck there earlier this week...

YMMV.

Man, you are tellin' it like it is. The funny thing is that when I tried the Deluxe, I also tried an American Standard HSS just as a point of reference and I really liked the Standard (I currently own a superb '93 American Standard Strat). It's a very fine guitar, but from the moment I laid my hand on the Deluxe Strat's neck, there was no looking back. A bit on the pricey side, but to me it's worth it.

My wife bought me an Am Dlx strat in September as an early Christmas gift. I love this thing. It's more than worth the money.

The tuning stability, even on the non-LSR ones like mine is amazing - I've never seen a guitar take so much whammy bar abuse like I put this one though and stay in tune so well - not even my old Ibanez with the floyd rose. Also I hate, Hate, HATE!! noisy pickups - my 20 years of playing guitar this is my first strat because I could not stand regular single coils...until I got this strat I either played Gibsons or something similar in terms of the pickups and control set. The N3 Noiseless pickups were another reason for me to go for this guitar.

And then there's the S1 system. LOVE IT!!! Not only does it open up some tones no other model of strat produces but the way they wired it up, in some pickup positions it even gives you lead and rhythm tones without having to touch the selector switch - just press the S1 and keep going.

One of my favorite tones from the S1 is the neck with S1 engaged... set the tone without the S1 to a nice thick overdriven tone (I used a Visual Sound Double Trouble when I stumbled on this one...OD 1 was set with level and tone at 12o'clock, drive at 2 o'clock...OD 2 (optional) was set to a clean boost with tone at 2 o'clock drive at 8 o'clock and level dimed). If you've got a tube amp and set the pedals right - so that they are pushing the tubes, creating some natural compression - you get this real nasally tone once the S1 is engaged and no volume drop - if you don't have enough dirt in the sound or push the tubes enough to get them to give you some compression it will have volume drop and the tone will be thin sounding; but if you use a compressor I'm sure it will compensate so you can use cleaner settings. It kinda reminds me of turning on a wah and leaving it in a fixed position. It'll cut through any mix - trust me.

From what I've read Fender is going to replace the N3s with their new Super 55 split-coils as of January 1st, 2012.

Did you've an opinion about these new noiseless humbucking pickups? How they sound? Are compatible with the Clapton midboost? I was looking for a demo from the Super 55 SCs but had trouble to find one on YouTube.

I have exactly that and I am looking to sell it. Bought in 99 they retail for around $1500.00 (at least I verified that the version I have would go for that) Hardly used, always gravitated back to my acoustic. I am asking $1300 (because it is PRISTINE) but I will negotiate a reasonable offer. Name's Mansel and I live in TX. Just respond to this post and I'll get an email confirm
