I purchased this guitar (used) about 12 years ago from a local dealer. The price tag on the Guitar said 62 Reissue.

What is the difference between a 62HR, a 62RI, and a American Vintage 62?

While searching on the web I have found many 62HR in Sherwood green but not a RI.
Is it possible I have a 62HotRod and not a reissue?

Also the amp in the picture has no name of any kind on it, it is a tube amp I picked up at a yard sale for 15 bucks, it sounds great any insight on what brand it is would be awesome also.

Based on the fake wood it's probably from the 70s. I'd say probably some generic Japan amp. I've seen a few that look similar, but there were so many Japanese guitar companies that I'm really not sure.

As for the guitar, I think Fender has a serial number thing on this site. You can determine that there hopefully.

The Vintage Hot Rod series was only introduced in the last 10 years so I doubt it's one of those. Probably a 62RI.

If you've had it for 12 years I can guarantee you it is an American Vintage '62 reissue. In fact I had one in that exact color - Sherwood Green. They only made the AV '62s in Sherwood Green from 1998 (when the revamped American Vintage line came out) through about 2001; in 2002 they dropped the color and brought out the Ocean Turquoise.

I should have never let my '99 go; I've never found a better Strat -including having owned a couple of Fender CS Strats. I just had to have that Les Paul back then and figured I could "always get another AV '62 Strat" but I've never found another that I bonded with like I did with that one. Sometimes you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

Thanks for the repies everyone. Lots of good information on here from the users.

I unbolted the neck and stamped on the body was June 25 1999.
Is there a difference between a 62 reissue and a American Vintage 62 reissue or are they the same?

also around the four corners of my neck plate the wood is showing. I looked at another picture of a 62ri in sherwood green and it is the same. Is that a common problem or is from the factory like that?

They're the same instrument.

I think the hotrods differ in the fretboard radius (flatter) and the bridge pickup (hotter).

Sorry I'm not following - do you mean bare wood is showing around the neck plate? If so - then no, mine did not have that issue that I recall. As I say I let it go to get something else and that was before I had a digital camera and took a lot of shots of my guitars. Of course that could be why Fender only kept that color around for 3-4 years (now I'm not sure if the Ocean Turquoise came out in 2001 or 2002).

I think it is bare wood unless it has a darkish yellow primer underneath the paint. It is just around the corners probably about as wide as a low E string and about 1/2 inch long rounding the corners.

Thanks everyone for the info. You guys rock. Now to post a new question. (Been out of the guitar game for along time).

that sounds like the neck plate was to tight and the paint cracked and flaked out. does the plate look like the corners are pulled down with it bulging out in the center? you may have to catch a reflection on it to really see it.
