A friend is looking at a Strat that is very strange sorry no picture..He had me run the dates and it came back as a 82-85 MIA Fender..The serial number is E332XX..It has one volume and one tone knob ..There is no back cavity for this guitar the springs for the tremolo are located underneath the bridge..It does have a 4 bolt neck not the CBS 3 bolt..SSS pickup configuration. The input jack is on the pickguard so i do not think its a prodigy but i'm unsure..It does say Fender Stratocaster on the headstock..I'm telling him to hold off on buying till identified..If you can tell what this is by the description it would be a huge help...Thanks

It's an '83 Standard Stratocaster. They replaced the '81-'82 Standard Strats commonly known as "Smith Strats".

one other strange thing i failed to mention is the input jack is on the pickguard but is plugged in as you would a SG in other words you would use a L shaped jack instead of a straight jack like you normally use with a Strat..

No it is a Dan Smith 1983-84 Strat as some one previously mentioned ..He went ahead and bought it and brought it by the house..He only paid $500 for it and it is in mint condition ..From what i have seen on e bay he got a deal because those years are selling for over 1K ..As a player though the bridge/tremolo looks a bit suspect for letting a guitar fall out of tune..To me it just does not look like a solid design...

IIFRC Dan Smith strats are from '81-'82. The Strat you are talking about came after the Smith Strats.

It's the guitar you're talking about? The Japanese versions had 22 frets and a flatter 9,5"-inch radius. Fender Japan stopped making the 22-fret bare-bones and their Elite sisters in 1986.
