Any humbucker is terrible. I bought my Telecaster for the good price. Not the humbucker in the neck position.

Personally I love the humbuckers in all of my guitars, though I can't speak for the hot rails in particular.

I prefer full sized humbuckers in my Strats that have them in them. To me they give off a thicker sound than SC sized humbuckers (I am not sure why).

Try a humbucker-sized P90 from Bareknuckle - they're ballsier than single-coils but remain articulate and dynamic. In my experience humbuckers can make a Strat sound Boxy and over-compressed and I agree with rkreisher, single-coil-sized humbuckers don't have the balls of full-sized ones.

Hi Mike,

Nothing wrong with Duncans. You get that Maiden sound instantly if that´s what you want.
The SHR-1 keeps a good amount of that Stratocaster bite in the sound to let it still sound like a Strat.
A real humbucker still has more punch than a stacked single coil or mini-bucker.

Cheers,
Robin

I have only ever owned HSS Strats, and would say that, personally, there's more to it than one pickup that's 'the best'.

As previously mentioned, I've found that full-size humbuckers sound fuller than singlecoils.

This is my favourites list...

- Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Plus - best bluesy humbucker. Surprisingly delicate & articulate.
- DiMarzio Super Distortion - best compressed, easily distorted sound. On clean, it's a brilliant thick sound.
- DiMarzio D-Sonic- best face-melting pickup ever. It's evil. It sustains for days and kills small hedgehogs. Downside is it's not very expressive unless you rock the volume down a few notches.
- Seymour Duncan Little '59 - best all-rounder that looks almost stock. Relatively inexpensive, fits in a standard Strat pickguard, sounds good. A little bass-light for my liking.
