There is a Powerhouse Strat for sale locally for $300 Canadian. Can anyone give me a rundown of the Powerhouse and let me know if $300 is a good deal?

Thanks,

PowerHouses seem to be love 'em or hate 'em. $300 is a great price, I'd jump on it.

Their necks are a cut above regular MIM necks, they have jumbo frets and a flatter radius. Clipping two resistors gets you the mid-boost of a Clapton strat. The bridge has the wider vintage spacing and a full sized trem block.

I think they're a misunderstood guitar because the knobs don't do the same as a standard strat. The first tone knob is the actual tone for whatever pickups you've selected and the second is the amount of overdrive you want to dial in. Nice and simple. Because of the boost you can dial the volume down without loss of tone. Also, the center pickup isn't reverse wound so you don't get that special tone you get on II and IV with normal Strats.

Slap in a set of Vintage Noiseless and you've got yourself the sound of a Clapton Signature.

Thanks for the info. NGD is coming soon, but I received a Gift Card to a store, so I may be limited to shopping there. This ad has been up for a few days. It started out at $350 and has already dropped by $50. I wonder how firm he is on the price?? Hmmm?

If the battery dies, can you still play the guitar through an amp or are you hooped until you replace it?

It hasn't happened to me so I don't know for a fact, but I'm pretty sure you get no signal without a battery. However, the battery will last months and months since you're only drawing power off it when it's plugged in. You just have to remember to unplug it when not in use.

If you want more "roar" into the mix, stick an Atomic humbucker with zebra bobbins in the bridge position. You'll get a Special Player Run Stratocaster HSS without the price tag.

The Special Player Stratocaster HSS has two dual-coil ceramic Noiseless pickups which are specially calibrated for a proper balance with the Atomic humbucking bridge pickup. This is the same pickup configuration used on the American Deluxe HSS LT from 1998 to 2003 except for the addition of a Clapton circuit.
