To the best of my knowledge and belief, 'Roger that" on the Martin. I expect that his icon status will pretty much have his people calling the shots on any deal.

I bet if we put our heads together we could come up with several artists who have signature models with more than one maker at the same time. Erm...

The Limited Edition Crossroads 335. Here's a vid about it, if you have an hour to spare...

Fantastic work Ceri unearthing this video i'll have to watch it in full.

Did you see what that 335 sold for at that auction!!! $847,000!! buyer the Guitar Center!

This is an unrelated question but i don't want to start a thread just for this question; you guys that have Clapton strats do you ever use the trem or do you keep it in strict Eric style with all 5 springs and plate tightened all the way up?

I recently put the bar on and it's cool and all but i keep thinking to take it off and revert back to the way i've used it for the last 22 years!!!!

Fishman piezos, Seymour Duncan P-Rails, TBX and MDX boosts... these gems make the guitar more versatile.

I wonder how a P90 pickup would sound with the MDX boost cranked up at full force.

Usually P90s are primarily designed to work with a 3-way toggle like the lead/rhythm selector found on many Gibbys. Pete hooked the P-Rails with the 5-way switch to split their coils.

The Cherry Red 1964 ES-335 was also used on the "Journeyman" album (Hard Times), the "From The Cradle" sessions and tour in 1994-95 and the Prince's Trust Hyde Park concert in 1996.

Find my thread on the Clapton Trem Setup. some people having toyed around with floating the bridge. I keep it the way the guitar was designed to be played. Mine's an early '89 by serial number and an an early '90 by neck end date. Dating those early birds was a lost cause. Condition is far more important IMHO and mine still has it's trem cover plastic in place, even though I purchased it off eBay. I'd give mine an 8/10.

Thanks ZZDoc, you know the whole Clapton strat thing is quite complicated! Mine has an 88 serial number on the headstock, i haven't looked anywhere else.

Who actually makes these sig models now? by that i mean is there a Clapton model that is made in the regular fender factory as opposed to the custom shop?

When i first got mine, and until recently, i thought a Clapton was a Clapton, but it appears not.

If someone wanted to purchase a regular bread and butter Clapton strat would they get a regular factory built one i take it, unless they wanted something specifically individual done to theirs in which case they'd have to go to the custom shop?

Those early Clapton strats like mine would all have been made in the regular factory as i don't think mine is a custom shop made one

The Clapton Strat is usually shown with the tremolo bar installed, which is not normal for a guitar having a blocked tailpiece.

Normally a blocked bridge doesn't allow players to install the whammy.

I also have doubts regarding the pickup config.

From 1998 to 2003 the American Deluxe Strats featured three VNs with a hot bridge pickup.

Does Eric use the same pickup array as the pre-2004 Deluxes?

Funny, but i also think i understand why Eric wanted the tremolo bridge even though it's blocked off and he doesn't use it, apart from the sound issue; i looked at some pics of hardtail strats and they look kinda weird when you're used to the normal bridge! sort of like they are a strat but something doesn't look right! it just appears a bit strange round about the bridge area.

I suppose it's all down to the fact you don't see many people using strat hardtails with the non tremolo bridge. For years i didn't even know fender made them! I don't think they were very much in demand.

What we have finalized elsewhere recently as a summation of what we've come to learn over the years is that he wanted the entire trem system in place because he felt that the springs resonated of a fashion and contributed to the tone which is why the entire system is fixed and re-enforced with a maple block.

The specs sheet says the guitar has three Vintage Noiseless Strat pickups (neck, middle, bridge) but lacked off a clear description regarding the bridge pickup which I suppose is the "Hot" variant found on the pre-2004 USA Deluxes.

Did Eric ever used the hot Noiseless bridge pickup on his axes after the switch from the Laces in 2000?

Yes, the Custom Shop has released a reproduction of his battered old Esquire a couple of years ago. Greco and Edwards/ESP also did replicas of that guitar, which is no longer made.

Not to my knowledge, and never heard anything of the sort from Eldred.

Best I can do is I remember Slash had a signature Guild guitar (Crossroads) at the same time he was 'endorsing' Gibsons... didn't actually have a signature Les Paul at the time, though.

Here's a gratuitous pic of the Crossroads :D
