Better off just saying birds of a feather flock together. Because I find being likened to your great mind a bit daunting.
Hey, notwithstanding my training and background, there are skills that you and Ceri possess that I haven't even begun to attempt to come to know. Remember what I once said about Clapton...."I can do some of what he does for a living, but he can't do anything I do."

Arne note the part where Mr Rogan says Pete usually just throws the guitar at him. I wonder if Mr Rogan gets paid danger money?

I would demand it.....and be pretty damn good in the bob and weave department, as well.

There was an interview with his assistant on this Fender site some time back. He said he'd got pretty adept at glueing the things back together for him.

Here it is though not on this site but Youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts2g3mCxB3M&feature=related

Alan Rogan stood with Jeff Beck's tech who now works for Clapton.

Had that one in mind myself. Good that you posted it. Showstagoya that great minds think alike

Ah - I must not have a great mind then, because I'm thinking of a different vid, lodged somewhere on Fender's own site, if memory serves. That was one where Alan said Pete threw his Strat at him and the headstock broke all the way down the line of the tuner holes. He said he just glued it back together and the guitar carried on happily for many more shows, many more throws.

Demonstrates that even Fender pegheads can break sometimes: you just have to treat them a bit rougher than - ahem - certain other makes...

I don't think Les Paul did this even during his divorce proceedings.

Reminds me of a certain three-year old.

As for the great minds thing. Well. Your preciseness clearly shows you to be the cut above that you are.

To think of all the guitars Pete ruined back in the day, but yeah i think they managed to glue some of 'em back together but you'd never think that they'd ever play properly again, or stay in tune, after a whacking like Pete gave them.

As far as the sig models; if you get a Gibson sig named after you does that mean you can't get a fender one :?: because let's face it the companies are big rivals

Even as a hormonal teenager that "auto-destruction" stuff filled me with conflicted feelings. A big bit of my head found it sickening and stupid behaviour. And a secret dark place at the back of my brain was turned on by it.

To this day I can still get in touch with both sides of those instincts.

Pish.

Still. Just been looking at the price of disc sanders at Axminster: didn't realise they are so affordable. I will never again in my life make a bone nut without buying one of those machines first. Cut down the working time by about 95%.

Cheers - C

EDIT: stupider spelling mistakes than even I can live with. D'oh!

There are players that have both. Jeff Beck, for example.

And just to remind us: Mike Eldred (head of the Fender Custom Shop) said a year or two ago that a Pete Townshend Sig Strat is in the pipeline. Simply a question of when.

Cheers - C

Clapton has one in each company. Beyond that, who knows what the arrangements are.?

Ha. That's quite interesting. Never owned an SG but everytime I've played one I've been surprised just how much I like it. And that price for a natural finish and two P90s. Hmmm - something to think about.

Meanwhile. Townshend and Fender, then and now:

Pete's played Strats for more years than Jimi Hendrix and SRV put together. And for that matter he's probably paid for more Fenders than most people who play them... given how many he seems to get through. :|

Cheers - C

One of his Clapton Strats is equipped with a set of P-90s.

Just goes to show you how, in the right circumstances, you can do most anything with a guitar.

What does Clapton have sig wise at Gibson? is it the 335? i can't remember. What about Beck? what does he have? i remember him playing a Les Paul standard, a black one, back in the day.

They don't seem to advertise those sig models very much or push them because i've rarely if ever seen an adfor them anywhere whereas the fender one's are all high profile. Even the Jimmy Page les paul's were not really pushed hard from what i remember, maybe it's just my imagination.

The current Clapton/Gibson collaboration is a Beano Les Paul. Though it's a tribute not a signature series guitar as far as I can tell.

That's right. And the Beck is the Ox Blood Les Paul, as seen on the cover of Blow By Blow, I believe.

Does Clapton still have a Martin Signature model too? No limit to how many companies you can be endorsed by at once. He's far to wily to sign an exclusive deal with any of 'em.

Cheers - C

To the best of my knowledge and belief, 'Roger that" on the Martin. I expect that his icon status will pretty much have his people calling the shots on any deal.

"Its good to be king"

You know i completely forgot about the Martin sig  how could i have done that? I'm sure Gibson did a version of his old red 335 that he used a lot in Cream, the one he used at the final Albert Hall gig. I was sure they brought that out, but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me in my old age 8)
