If you're talking about Hendrix, yeah he was out of tune often and if you had enough experience you would be able to tell it...but you don't.

Well, if you want a Hendrix Strat tone, you're going to have to get a decent set of pickups that can replicate either his early 60s guitar tone or his late 60s one. The sound is very different from era to era. Then plug in using an old style coil cord, running into a marshall Stack, a Fender Twin or both, usually running flat out.

On the electronics side, you'll need to throw in a Hammond WAWA pedal (A hotrodded Cry Baby will do.), a vintage or repro FuzzFace an Octvia or maybe a Fulltone OctaFuzz and a Univibe. In the studio, Hendrix used several different Strats, a Gibson Flying-V, an SG, a Tele or whatever was laying around with strings on it.

Once you've accomplished gathering all of that together, you'll need to woodshed long enough to be able to cop the Hendrix dry tone. If you look around, you'll find several TAB books to help you learn the songs but be aware that Hendrix was a master of the guitar and his music isn't easy to play correctly.

I'm not trying to discourage you but Jimi was a monumental musician and coping his tones isn't easy.

PS: I checked my files and heres another resource to info: http://areyouexperienced.net/
This guy has spent a lot of years studying and playing in a Hendrix's Tribute Band with some real success. Check it out!

Good luck!

To be honest, you can't get a Hendrix tone. Reason being, because Hendrix couldn't get a Hendrix tone.

You could take a bunch of LSD and start jamming. I'm sure you'll get close.

... so to answer your question, LSD from Muso's for Hendrix tone.
...oh yeah and a Strat.

I mean, he knew how to keep his composure with drugs. Most people can't. And if you can't play guitar to begin with, what makes you think drugs will be amplification? (stab at IMSRV)

Why the hell are you trying to answer your own questions? Don't ask how to sound like Hendrix and then try and give pointers on how to sound like Hendrix...BTW Hendrix Maxed out all the controls on his amps. He then adjusted the volume and tone using the guitar. This of course varied considering his endless searching for new sounds. A Fuzzface, Univibe and a Vox-Wah aren't going to magically make you "sound" like Hendrix. You need not worry about it though because no matter how much you "sound" like Hendrix, You'll never be able to actually "play" like Hendrix. I'll tell you like Hendrix would surely say himself. Quit worrying about Hendrix and perfect your own style and sound. I'm sure their are plenty of folks who wasted their playing time trying to be someone else who would tell you the same.

You want to play like Hendrix? Get off the damn computer and play your guitar.

I would suggest getting new pick ups for your guitar and a tube amp. I agree that Hendrix's tone varied. I think he did not have a exact setup but just did what he thought would sound good. If the strings were old and rusty he went with it.
