Since i'm a Hendrix fan and i'm getting closer to the hendrix tone but my Squier ain't gonna cut it. i'm trying to save up for a Blacktop strat and if i want i could get a 52 RI Tele for country. What should i get?

get the fuzzface pedal. i've heard that was a big factor in his tone.

To be honest, you can't get a Hendrix tone. Reason being, because Hendrix couldn't get a Hendrix tone. Notice how all of his live performances are different. The way he probably saw it, was that the song he wrote was a blank canvas and adding extra to it (such as the ending of Purple Haze from Berkeley in 1970 or All Along The Watchtower in 1970) would make it unique, which it did. It was something like that from a documentary I watched, but I couldn't remember because it's 6:00 am.

I tend to agree with this, or at least with the basic sentiment. That "Hendrix tone" is all in your ears. It's not something you can really definitively "have". You might think you get there, but somebody else will think you're far from it. Besides that, any guitarist sounds different with different gear. Take Clapton's career. He sounded far different with the Yardbirds than he would with the Bluesbreakers. And his sound continued to evolve through the Cream years. By 1970 he was using Strats and Fender Champ amps in the studio and it was a much, much different sound than the Les Paul/Marshall combo he used with the Bluesbreakers. Towards the late '70's he started using a much cleaner sound, and eventually started using the Lace Sensor equipped signature Strats and they were eventually changed to Vintage Noiseless pickups and all of those setups have yielded different sounds. So what's "Clapton tone"?

Hendrix had a much shorter career but it's basically the same thing. His sound constantly evolved. Imagine what Jimi would sound like if he had lived and had gone through as many different phases as Clapton. I'm sure he would have made some amazing music and alot of interesting sounds.

Especially because of advances in guitar technology. I hate to say this, but I think Hendrix would use a Floyd if he were still alive.
