Sorry to hear, Heavy. I'm really surprised - all I've ever heard about the Hwy 1s has been good. Maybe you did get a lemon. If so, I would say that is the exception to the rule with Hwy 1s. Maybe you can trade out of it and get a Classic Player or some other strat, if you wanted one. I have the CP 60s strat (you mentioned the Classic Player MiM earlier) - it's a great guitar, I just with the middle pickup was reverse-wound. Good luck.

I'm sure it just needs some love. As long as it doesn't ruin me, I'm prepared to give it some tech love. And you're right, the CP '60s Strat is a great guitar. Congratulations.

My Klein '69s came with a RW/RP middle pup as per my request. Probably a good decision as I mostly push my vintage Selmer amp hard for that sweet overdrive.

Thanks man.

I can't speak for the Strats but my Hwy 1 Tele kicks butt. I did change out the stock pickups for a Seymour Duncan 1/4 lb set, but I do pickup changes all the time. As others have posted, it sounds to me like your pickups are defective or you "effed" something up.

Well my 2 cents is I have had several strats including some 80s strats, a American deluxe, and MIM's . unfortunately I had to sell most due to finical problems but I have a 2006 upgrade highway 1 FSR it came with the small headstock and custom shop 50's pickups, two-tone burst and 8 hole pick guard all factory. It has the best neck of any guitar I had (22 fret is a plus). Ive changed the pick-guard and added locking tuners. I wish I could find another one like it . Some guitars are just lemons you have to play them I have seen some MIM's with better necks than some American deluxe strats

Well don't bash the Hwy1 next time. I played one at the store and it was a great player for under $1000. I love the Hwy1 but i could not buy it. i was holding it in my arms and telling my mum "i want it!" and she just dragged me out of the store with the guitar in my hands. left it at the front door of the store and someone stole it.

Come to earn your way with your music and you'll be able to justify your needs and your price. "The difference between men and boys is the kind and the price of their toys."

Well, it turns out I was wrong. Not that I'm surprised. Like I said I was venting some (lots of) frustration, it happens to all of us.

After having raised the bridge saddles more than I thought would make for playable action I'm almost rid of the problem and the guitar still plays verrry comfortably. Somehow it has affected the overall sustain aswell. Blind luck :D Very glassy sounds on the neck pickup around the 12th fret...that's what I love about Strats (and my new Klein '69s).

Now it's off to the rehearsal room to fiddle with amp settings/individual pickup height.

What feels even better is I made all the changes myself except the pup change. Trial and error I guess!

Peace.

Live and learn eh mate. Trial and error are great teachers.

Now don't be afraid to fiddle with your guitar again eh. We'll be here to help should you need us.
