We always said the most dangerous weapon in the United States Army is a second lieutenant with a map, a compass and a GUN!

Watch out where you're pointing that thing, Lieut!

We never let the el-tee have any ammo, Dennis.

Especially if he happened to be a ring-knocker.

I really think the Hwy1 pups are good for 70s rock and stuff with a harder edge.

Here is something that might help.

Tune down a half tone and play the next fret up from one that gets a dead note.
If the fret up was normally fine and now sounds dead the fault probably lays with your guitars body resonating at the same frequency and therefore deadening the note.

Another thing to try is take off your whammy bar unplug your guitar and gently tap the frets with the plastic end of the whammy. You should hear the neck and body resonate going up in pitch starting from the body. You can dead detect dead frets like this as well.

If it looks to be a fret then it may need re-seating which is possibly warranty work.

You should also check the nut and string tree(s). Then check the tuner ferrules are tight as you can get buzzing/deadening there as well believe it or not.

Then change your strings after you tighten your tuners.

I'm not sure if anyone addressed this, but you coud have a luthier look at the neck and well... fix it. Hwy1's have great necks. It's not a Strat in the traditional sence, but it's a really well thought out guitar.
