Hey everyone.

Installed new Klein '69 pickups in my Hwy1 Strat. Needs some tinkering, but I'm happy to be rid of the stock pickups as they were un-stratty to my ears.

I've mostly played my other (Gibson) guitars before the pup change. Now I discover that I have a bunch of dead notes on my Hwy1...and I must say...

...my Gibson SG Faded has way better workmanship than my Hwy1.

Shame on you Fender!

Oh, and yes, I have adjusted the truss rod and the bridge to try and fix the problem. Nothing. Let this be a warning if you're considering investing in a Hwy1. Consider buying a Classic Player MIM Strat instead.

No, it's more like shame on you HeavyPsych.

Lot's of people change their pickups to suit their taste. Also, lots of people like the stock pickups. Your taste does not speak for everyone, and it certainly doesn't reflect badly on Fender.

So, you didn't like the pups, so what? Did you try adjusting the stock pickup heights? Now, after the pup change, you have "dead notes"? That would be a Klein problem, wouldn't it?

The Highway One is very popular, and never heard a bashing post like yours about them before.

Maybe you should skip the Fender Forums and go hang out at the Gibson forum.

I don't like the Klein pups, but doesn't merit bashing the company.

I have a set of klein 59 pups in my old 03 HW1 with excellent results. I think you may have some setup issues there BUB. it is possible you have some bad strings or the pickups are to close to the strings. have a tech look at it

I don't know about the Hwy 1,but I have a set of Klein '62 pickups in my '62 RI HR Strat and they're vey nice!
The dead notes you're talking about...didn't you ever notice them before?..surely the original pups weren't that bad, that you never heard anything wrong.

+1

The dirty little secret is, not every musician with a Strat and a screwdriver should consider himself a "guitar tech".

We had an adage in the service......

The most dangerous weapon in the United States Army is a second lieutenant with a map and a compass.

I suspect that scenario is repeated here.

Kind of strange to blame this on Fender if the "dead notes" were a function of pup replacement. Sounds like you may have done too much "tinkering" already. :?

Maybe they are notes that didn't heed the warnings from the other notes about being quiet.

Sorry you are having issues with your guitar. My 07 Highway was already a great guitar before I modified it, now it is my #1 goto guitar. May I suggest before you write your guitar off, you have a professional look at it. It may not be the guitar itself.

The dirty little secret is that individuals have to familiarize themselves with the way the members of this Forum help each other and that a little etiquette goes along way to solving problems utilizing the input of some really, talented, creative and knowledgeable people. If that doesn't work for the OP, well.....I guess Gibson be da place.
