I wonder how serial numbers can be defined on those
I found that pic

It seems to start with CG, kind of like the CVs. I'm also wondering where are they made (in china)...

Good evening Folks, I was following this thread as I was about to buy myself my first Fender Strat.
The Modern Player looked great so after lots of umming and ahhhing, I decided to go with the MP rather than the Mexican Strat. Big mistake. The quality of the MP is very poor for a guitar costing best part of £350. The rosewood fret board looked liked it had been put together by my 3 year old. Everything about it appeared cheap. I rang the shop where I purchased it from and asked for an exchange for the Mexican, which they kindly did.
Once I got the Mexican, I could tell straight awat the difference in quality, most notably the weight, the Mexicn being a decent amount heavier.
Anyway, thought I'd post this just in case anyone else was in two minds of which one to go for.

I've actually went for it, and absolutely loved it !
The fretboard is well built, the neck feels great and everything, pristine fret job and surprisingly stable tremolo... My only complain would be the stock pickups which aren't that great, to be honest. But with the right strings, a pup swap and some good amping, I bet it'd sound even more awesome than it is stock.
@ Bazza71 Maybe the one you had was badly built, mine's perfect, I've got no issues at all.

Anyway, YMMV guys, pick one and see for yourself.

As for the pics, I can't actually get any because I still haven't got any camera.

I went for it too. I ordered a silverburst one from musiciansfriend.com a couple days ago.
Hopefully it'll get here soon. I will post again after I get it.

That silver burst finish is attractive. I think that if I were to get one, I'd get some white pickup covers and knobs.

I've read your review and I couldn't agree more with you and 93greenstrat.
I'm glad I'm not the only one here thinking it's Fender's masterpiece.

I just got my Modern Player HSS on April 10th, 2012. I chose the Silverburst model. The pics online do not do justice to the beauty of this guitar in person!
I ordered it and chose 2nd day air for the first time so, I was a little nervous about getting a damaged guitar but, not as much as a ding in the box.
The guitar itself was flawless and I am very satisfied with the stock pick-ups. I don't use the trem so, I can't attest to it's performance but, I can say that for the first time I am not going to "lock" the bridge down. It holds tune almost perfectly so far. The only thing it needs is a little tweaking of the intonation...just a wee-bit!
I had originally ordered the Tele version but, zZounds was out of stock and when I checked other online stores, they were all on back-order as well.
I "needed" a Modern Player and chose the Strat as an alternative in spite of the fact that there were no online video reviews and much could be found in the way of written reviews. I guess it was a leap of faith that I am very happy to have taken.
If your curious, get one. In my opinion you will not be disappointed.
I have owned both the Squier 50's Classic Vibe Tele and Strat and they were amazing players. This Modern Player is near that price point and every bit as good as, if not a little better than the Classic Vibes!

Has anyone weighed their Modern Player Strat? If so, curious minds would like to know.

thanks
