hello everyone,

I am about to buy my first fender after my ibanez rga42 pickup died (they said the bridge pickup 'mic' was finished?). I consider myself a newbie and like to play rock and metal type of music Anyways, I am down to 2 options right now regarding guitar choice.

1) fender telecaster blacktop series
2) fender stratocaster blacktop series

Now, I really don't know the difference between these two except the strat has a 5 way switch... Which guitar is more suitable for me?

If you like the the RG alot just put a new pickup in other wise I would go with the stratocaster

Considering you like metal I'de get the Fender Stratocaster Newyorker Apple model it has I think a humbucker in the lead bridge pickup and that way you will have the best of both worlds. Dont get a Telecaster unless you play a lot of soft rock unless you have heaps of distortion type effects it's mainly a country rock type guitar sound, pleased to meet you cheers hope this helps you, dont rush Vinny Pop

The strat has a five way switch because it has 3 pickups-this means you can play on each pickup individually, and "in between" any two pickups that are next to each other. The tele has a three way switch because it has 2 pickups-the three positions here are bridge pickup, bridge and neck pickup, and neck pickup. 2 pickups guitars can have a 5 way switch, but its very rare.

A Tele may be a bit TOO much of a change from your Ibanez. Go with the Strat unless you want something really different.
