I bought an American Deluxe a few months ago....I love it! I really like the S-1 switching and all the sounds it can produce. And in my hands, it feels so much better than my other two electrics. (MIM Strat & Thinline Tele)

Word of caution, though...I've seen posts from other people that say they don't like the S-1 switching. So you should probably try one out at a music shop and see for yourself.

Can you guys say something bad about the deluxes?

We're struggling to get them in the UK and something bad might help soften the time we're having to wait

I have the MIA Deluxe Strat HSS and i love it the moment i had my hands around it...the locking tuner and LSR imo helps with the issue of maintaning in tune after hours of playing with the trem. The S-1 switch opens up to a lot of different sound and tone...but the humbucker was rather weak i say but still acceptable compared to the SCN's.
Overall the finish i would say 9/10....with the abalone inlays it makes the Deluxe looks amazing....

Mine is SSS ash, aged cherry/maple fingerboard. Very good-looking and well constructed, very versatile-OK, let me go on to the cons, all the pros have been mentioned here. The S1 options can fatten up a lead sound but IMHO they cannot be compared to a juicy humbucker tone. I guess everybody is going to agree that their choice #1 is the traditional single coil options which - by the way- are kind of nasal for my taste bur otherwise they're very classy and silent (when needed). This last thing has been really important for me- I can't stand the single coil hum since I've tried the SCNs. This guitar is very good for recording but let's say it does not excel when it comes to dirtier/noisier live tones a la Gallagher (Rory, of course).
Another thing is that it isn't fast/shred friendly (which Strat is?). I also play a Brian Moore i9f which is so much faster and kind of easier (rosewood f/board and different radius maybe?) I think people who like classy cleanish playing (eg robben ford) will love the Am. Deluxe, it's not going to take you to Dream Theater/ Vai etc territory though.
Bottom line; interested in metal-prog metal etc? Don't buy it. Interested in classy blues, funk, country and rock? Buy it.

Well, we're supposed to honest in order to be helpful here... What I constantly see and don't like is the fact that a lot of people try to tell us how good their equipment is just because they paid a lot for it- I think this should change so that all of us can get our hands on better equipment in the long run. Honest user reviews=better value for money. THX for the positive feedback.

Exactly! It's nice to see something other than "Mine is the best"

Thanks and your welcome!

I just picked up my HSS on Saturday and I love it. I used it a couple times to test out an amp beecause of it's interesting features. I have a 89 Strat Plus and I think these two guitars are among the best Strats ever made in part due to the sum of the quality parts used and due to teh traditional design as well. Montego Black, HSS, Maple board = Mmm-Mmm!!!
