I love the American Deluxe line. You will find some people don't like the SCN pickups as much. I think they have become my favorite production pickup. Workmanship of the deluxe lineup is awesome. Great fret work, awesome neck, very much attention paid to the details. I think they are a great value. The only negative I can come up with is they have too many styles, I can not afford all of them!

My American Deluxe Strat has become my favorite. Plays beautifully, finish is stellar and the S1 switching gives this axe maximum diversity. The locking tuners are also a sweet feature, I can change strings without missing the last few beats of the drum solo!

I love both of mine. Once you get a deluxe, you won't go back (or you'll just get an American and spend more $$$ upgrading it, ie locking tuners) The only problem is that it's so versatile, that sometimes you sort of 'lock up' thinking of what sound you want to do, but that's a good problem. Love the S-1 switch, now a strat can sound as thick/heavy as a Gibson. :D

PS I swapped out the SCN pickups, and put in Texas Specials....dumb move, the SCN's are the best. Hardly any noise, and where I play a lot, they're grounding sucks.

I think they're great guitars. Great features and quality. The only negative for me personally is I don't like the current color selection, but if you do, I say go for it!

True statment... I also added SD pups, other than that I should have just bought the Am Del

I loved the features on the Deluxes as well, but after playing them I figured I'd want to swap the pickups (the SCNs were 80% there, but the low end IMHO just did not make it).

But then I found the American Mahogany Special at GC - basically a Deluxe with HSS config, same pups as the American HSS had some time back (Tex-mex). Sounds GREAT and I get all the Deluxe features - except the satin neck, I think the deluxes have a gloss neck. I like the satin myself.

Can you guys say something bad about the deluxes?

We're struggling to get them in the UK and something bad might help soften the time we're having to wait

OK, sure - the SCNs are a mixed bag. Hard to get that big woody strat bass out of them, the low end sounds a bit hollow & buzzy to me (tried via Hot Rod Deluxe, not known for its weak bass response). The TexMex pickups (cheap but effective!) on my GC special kick their heinies, though you do have to deal with hum.

Frankly I think the SCN should be optional on the Deluxes..Iwas on the fence about the Dlx as I really liked the features but dreaded swapping pickups with that S-1 switching!

but Fender already has so many models, I would not count on another model. Meanwhile, you can still get the Mahogany Special from MF.

i love my deluxe ash. i got the rosewood fretboard and sometimes wonder how much brighter the maple would be. and i'm still in love with the aged cherry sunburst finish too. but everybody has different tastes. i've read a lot of different opinions about the s1 switching, and i wonder how more choices can be a bad thing. to me it beats a bunch of rows of tiny coil tapping switches. dispute the pickups or switching, but the quality of the guitar is amazing.
