On the new American Special HSS Strat, does anyone know if the humbucker is split in the 2nd position so that you get the middle pup and inside single coil on the humbucker?

Did you not get a piece of paper in your case showing you the pup config?
Anyway, on my DLX Strat, position 2 is the middle and bridge pup are parallel.
The bridge pup is NOT split.
With the S1 switch on, the same pups are in series with a cap on the bridge pup.
The bridge pup is still NOT split.
Don't ask... All I know is that the Strat sounds different when I push the button.
Technology and wiring is not something I understand or even want to..
And if anyone wants to explain what parallel and series means, please do. :)

No. You get the full humbucker (coils in series) + the middle pickup in parallel. As a result, the 2nd position is not hum-cancelling.

In practical terms, a humbucker with its coils in series will have a stronger output and produce a "fatter" sound whereas having the coils linked in parallel will give you less output and a tone that sounds more like a single-coil but without the hum (the coils are still humbucking).

Thanks for the replies...I just got a diagram from Fender confirming that the full humbucker is active with the middle pup (see link below). Think I'm gonna have a push-pull pot installed to get my desired tone. :D

...OR you could wire it up like the old US Lonestar Strat and use the 5-way Super Switch t achieve coil splitting.
