Hi, I was wondering can I wire all three of my pickups in my Stratocaster to a tone knob, like the neck has one then the bridge and middle share one. Is there a mod I can buy or can I just do this by wiring it a different way?

I recommend putting the Bridge and Neck pups on the same tone control. It's simple to do. Follow the wire from the tone control pot back to the switch, it should go to the 3rd lug, run a jumper from that lug over to the empty lug (lug 1) on the switch. You're done.

A week or two ago, I did this simple mod, soldering a jumper (red) on the 5-way switch that has the middle and bridge pickups sharing the middle tone control:

Super simple, and easy to reverse if you don't like it.

I love being able to back off the treble on the bridge pickup now, and I wish I had done it years ago.

+1, John!

A simple and very usable mod, the first wiring change I ever performed on a Strat.

CAFeathers I could not open the link you posted. Is was you're talking about setting up the controls to be able to use the neck and bridge pickups at the same time? If so, that's a great modification.

I own a '79 Strat that has a push/pull pot that connects the bridge and neck together. Currently, I'm playing a Dlx Strat Plus which uses personality cards to achieve various mods, to include N&B combos and all three pickups at one time.

I recently purchased two (there are about 11 or so between the two DlxStPlus models) of the latest cards: the Phaser (Think Brian May) and the Super Stacker (Think position 2 & 4 as humbuckers).

OP Josh - aren't you just asking about a master tone control? Perhaps so you can use the other tone pot (hole) for something else, or Rory Gallagher style?

In which case, use the tone pot with the capacitor on it, locate the wire from it to the 5-way and unsolder it at the 5-way end. Solder it instead on to the volume pot tag which also holds the wire to the 5-way. Then completely disconnect (and remove?) the other tone pot. Very simple.

There are plenty of diagrams online. Just search for 'master tone Strat' or similar.

Or have I misunderstood? Probably!

Cheers - Peter.
