Anyone out there like the pre-upgraded Highway 1 better than the new '06 upgraded model?

I was hot for the new "upgraded" Highway 1's until I played them. I really didn't like it. The frets (too big) and neck were weird for me. I got my hands on a pre-upgraded Highway 1 and love it. The finish is all beat to crap, but sings like a bird. The neck is smooth as silk and you could tell the previous owner took care of the guitar..other than the finish. Paid about $400 for it and man its a great axe.

I have a pre-upgrade Highway One HSS in the walnut finish. Not only is it pretty, but it's a player, too.

Hey,

Do you guys know if the new 2008 highway one strats have a thin poly undercoat to the nitro or is it a pure nitro finish? I would like to be able to get a nice relic look to it...thanks in advance

I love my preupgraded strat. I'm not a big fan of the big 70's headstock. I also like the medium jumbo frets better than jumbos. I do, however, like the upgraded pickups better. I installed some Vintage Noiseless pickups and the Fender/Schaller tuners on mine and I couldn't be happier with my guitar. It plays and sounds amazing through my DRRI. I think the Highway One's got some good upgrades, like the pickups, but I do prefer the preupgrades better because of the neck, headstock, and frets.

I really dislike the 70's headstock on the new model. The old style fretboard is just perfect. I'm still playing around with the pickup height before I make a final assessment. The previous owner sunk them pretty low and they sounded flat. I raised them and they are screechy. I may swap them out. I'm going to give it a little time before I do though.
