On watching clips on YT from the video of Jeff playing at Ronnie Scott's i was wondering if anyone knew why he uses one of the nuts from the older strat plus's instead of the LSR nut that is on the current Beck model?

I saw an interview on YT with his tech who said the guitar that's his favorite is a combination of different necks and bodies and has been rebuilt several times because he plays it so hard. Maybe it's something to do with that.

The current LSR nut looks neater and slimmer than the one Jeff uses.

Hi Gorgon: I can give you a definitive answer to that.

Forum user Nikininja and I were talking to Trev Wilkinson just the other day. Wilkinson designed the original roller nut on the Strat Plus in the '80s, which emerged out of a signature project Fender did with Jeff Beck. That roller nut was very important to Trev because it helped his career at a crucial moment to have a hardware part with his name on it on a major manufacturer's instrument.

Once Fender came up with their own design for a roller nut, the LSR, they replaced the Wilkinson ones with it on their guitars, including the Beck Sig model. As the biggest name in electric guitars Fender don't much like the idea of other people's brands appearing on their instruments more than they can help.

However, Wilkinson is quietly proud that to this day Jeff Beck prefers his roller nut to Fender's and uses it on his own instruments. Beck isn't out to spit in anyone's eye, but he wants the instruments he plays with his own hands to match his requirements to perfection. Including that nut.

JB's neck profile preference has been changing recently and he currently uses a significantly thicker neck to the ones on Fender's official Sig Strat. There was talk about the Sig model being adjusted to follow that change but I don't know if it has happened yet or not.

There. You have it as I have it.

Cheers - C

Thanks so much Ceri, i appreciate the info. I've been watching a lot of Jeff's clips from the Ronnie Scott concert and i looked at the close up's and said "that's not the same nut that's on the sig model, i wonder why?" I had a strat plus back when they first came out and recognised it immediately as one of those nuts as it's a bit thicker and chunkier looking than the one on the Beck model.

Great stuff! i might have known that i'd get the answers i was looking for on the fender forum from the knowledgeable folks on it like yourself. Thank you. :)

So basically, just like any other every day occurrence.

Yep, that's what Mr Wilkinson said.

When I first started reading Ceri's post I thought he was going to say that you two were having a cuppa with Jeff Beck.... not that it would have really surprised me! :D
