I appreciate that pick ups are a very personal choice, however, I am in the process of customising a 60th anniversary Strat and wondered if any of the members of this forum have done the same (with any guitar). I'm looking at trying to get something different and 'one of' if that's possible, from a sound point of view. I have looked at the various loaded pick guards etc but nothing jumps out at me! The closest I have come is Pickers Parts, who do Fender and Seymour Duncan loaded pick guards to order. My tastes and playing are very middle of the road (playing in a cover band at the mo, covering lots of different years!). Any advice along these lines would be gratefully received. :D

I think it's prolly too ambitious of a project to try to find a sound that nobody has ever done before with just a pickup selection. To my way of thinking if you want to mod a 60th Anniversay Strat the way to go should be to try to get it to sound like a 60 year old Strat.

If that sounds like a good idea then this might be a good place to start looking:

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi s2classic,

Do you have an actual "60th Anniversary Model", or just one that was made that year and has the little diamond badge? All MIA and I think even the MIM production models had a 60th Ann badge, but the actual Ann models were different. The reason that I ask is about the pups that you already have. It would be a shame to get new pups that were very similar to the ones that you already have, and knowing which model you have would help to identify the pups.

Oh yeah, pictures would help, and eliminate doubt about model.

Thanks for the web tip BMW-KTM. I had a good look and there's a lot of options available. It got me thinking...!

Hi Shimmilou, yes the guitar is a 60th Ann, with the logo on the rear of the headstock. It currently has 2 SCN's and a DH1 humbucker (HSS). I bought the guitar specifically to customise it after I saw a Fender Custom Shop 2011 Strat being offered by Music Zoo. I couldn't afford the $3600 price tag but thought I could come close if I got this guitar and had it professionally customised. The Custom Shop one is a Transparent Sunset Orange with a flamed maple top. From a cost and ease point of view, I am getting a flame maple top veneer on mine. I also plan to have a matching headstock. There are a lot of choices for pick ups out there, but I like BMW-KTM's idea of trying to make my guitar sound like one that's 60 years old! Thanks for posting.
