Hey All,
I have a couple of 2002 USA Double Fats; one recently acquired. I had an SD59 installed in the bridge as this is my PUP set of choice for these guitars. Interestingly, the middle position sounds like it is going through a very subtle wah-wah pedal? All other positions sound normal.
So...Out of phase? Are there a couple of leads that need to be swapped? I'm going to bring it back to my tech, but I am curious. He said it was wired pretty crazy when he opened it up. There was an another cap added...took that out, and rewired to spec. He did say that he didn't get to thoroughly check it out before I grabbed it from him (my bad...I was early and anxious to fire it up). His speculation is that a couple of leads do need to be swapped.
The other one has a pair of double screw 59's and the middle sounds "normal."
One of my all-time favorite guitars! The necks on these 2002's...unreal!
Your thoughts?
Thanks all!

Welcome.

Your "wah" analogy does indeed imply the 59 is out of phase with the other pickup.

Some full sized 59s out there only have a single lead wire with a surrounding braided shield emanating from it; others have a four lead system emanating from it. If your's is the four lead, simply reverse the black and green wires. If your's has the single lead, you have two choices to correct the phasing: Slide out either pickup's magnet and flip it over or Reverse wire the leads of the other pickup provided that it has two lead wires to accommodate you.

Worth noting: When using position #2 of the selector switch, ordinarily this would shut off one of the coils of the 59. This require a four lead 59 for if you have only the single lead, even after the phase issue is corrected, there will be no difference between positions #2 and #3.

Thanks Man!
I have the 4-lead PUP, so sounds like an easy fix.
Appreciate the response.
