I've seen no final word on this board if indeed the Highway One line has been cancelled.
When I was on Wikipedia recently...I read this description...
They seem to have the final word............. :?:
Sad......'twas a great series!! :(

Highway 1 Stratocaster
The Highway-1 series, originally introduced in 2002 and re-designed in 2006, are made in the U.S. and incorporate a hybrid of hardware; the tuners and string trees are similar in design and quality to those on American Series instruments, while the bridge hardware is largely similar to the Standard Series. The body finish is a thin satin-finish nitrocellulose as opposed to the thick polyurethane coating used on both Standard and American series models. This coating provides a very vintage look, as nitrocellulose was the standard lacquer finish for vintage Strats. Highway 1 Strats use hotter Alnico III pickup polepieces similar to those on American Series guitars, giving a very bright sound compared to cheaper "ceramic" polepiece elements, and also feature a tone circuit called the Greasebucket, first seen on the Custom Pro series guitars; functionally similar to a traditional tone control, it provides a more natural roll-off of high frequencies, without the bass frequencies becoming more present as can occur with traditional tone circuits. The first two years of Highway 1 instruments resembled "pre-CBS"-era instruments with the traditional headstock design, small frets and vintage color choices. Beginning in 2006, the line was redesigned to resemble 70's-era instruments with a large headstock, bigger frets, CBS-era color schemes and other visual cues.
Fender discontinued the series in 2011.

Wikipedia, though mostly accurate is still just a web based information center. That information written by the users.
So don't believe it till you read it from Fender.

...well, I did notice that they dropped the HSS version. Other than that, it seemed that it was only a matter of time once they released the American Special series.

I can find no verification from Fender that this line has been discontinued. Matter of fact it is still listed on this website under Products and to the best of my knowledge Guitar Center, Sam Ash and MusiciansFriend still carry them.

You might want to contact Fender's Customer Service for an accurate and definitive answer.

I know the sales people and owner of the guitar shop I frequent stated that they cannot order anymore Highway 1's because they were told by the manufacturer that they were discontinued. This store sells a lot of Fender guitars. I believe the people in my shop when they say they cannot get any more in. The last time I was in they only had 1 left, a black/rosewood HSS. As much as I love the Highway 1 series, I fear that the end has come.

Perhaps Brad can shed some light on this subject?

They are discontinued. I was told that by two different guitar dealers awhile back. Both said once they sold the ones they had in stock at the time that they wouldn't be getting any more of them. Both said Fender had told them that the Highway1 line of guitars was out of production. So, the end of an era. Although I don't own one of them, I've always heard they were sweet guitars.

HWY1Strat, you must be happy with this, you have every colour combination of Highway 1s, probably the worlds greatest collection of that line of guitars.

Question is, did you keep the original pickups to put the guitars back to stock SHOULD you look at putting them into a museum or selling them later on.

Thank you!
Happy with this??!!
I was hoping for some more finishes to come out!!
I'm deeply saddened!!

I couldn't stand the original pickups!! I thankfully sold them ALL on E-Bay!!
They are worth more now (to me as a player) than before!
So...they're heavily modified......they'll never get into a Fender museum....I can live with that!
Heck....get an oversized coffin and bury them with me!!

I refuse to believe that Fender would dismiss such a well selling line of instruments. It's business suicide. Unless of course they plan on re-releasing the line in a year or two.

I don't think I've ever seen so much opinion about a guitar being discontinued. Fender are surely aware of peoples good feelings towards the line. So why would they not give people what they want?

I can't believe Wiki, I can't believe some shop employee or owner. Most of em would tell you anything to make a sale.

Couldn't agree more! Once the 70's headstock came out on the Highway 1's, is just a matter of time before its discontinued. With the American Special offering slightly better pup's, it was guaranteed. I've noticed the used price of the original Highway 1's are maybe $100 different than an American Standard. Goes to show what a valuable guitar Fender made.

The whole decision to change from the pre-CBS era to the 70's headstock was beneficial to Fender because they want to sell more standards then MIA Highway 1's. Good for them, bad for us....

You make a good point with your last sentence, Nikininja. That is true and I thought the same thing myself. But they're now down to one model on Fender's 'products' page and I'm not seeing any more new ones on display in the stores I mentioned, one of which I've done business with for years and know the owner well enough to doubt that he would lie to me. That's what I was going on for confirmation and I think you'll see the model disappear from Fender's catalog at some point in the near future.

Want the Highway1 models back?? Public demand is the best way I know of to accomplish that. If enough guitarists express the desire for those guitars, then Fender will respond.
