Hi All,
I'm interested to know what opinions everyone has on the S-1 switching on the American DeLuxe Strat? Good, Bad or Otherwise. 8)

I love it. As far as I see it, hitting the S1 switch is almost like strapping on a second strat. Really adds some serious beefiness and bass to the low end. I already hammered one small cheap into submission with it!

I want to get the newer version of this small VOX, but I'm afraid that strat will tear that one up too!

The S-1 switch is great! Doubling the amount of pickup selections simply by pressing a button;effective and user friendly.Classic Fender brilliance!

I don't have my Am Deluxe anymore, but I really did like the S-1 system. It was nice to have some different strat tones at the push of a button.

Love the switching. It gives each selector switch position a different and unique sound. It adds a lot of flexibility at the push of a button.

It's cool but overkill sometimes I think. I like the fact that it looks and operates like a regular Strat. It does give some cool options. Be warned that it can make swapping pickups more of a hassle though so if you're the type to mod stuff.

I bought my Strat specifically because of the SCN pups and the S-1 switching system. There's more to it than to be able to toggle new combinations, there's a certain way that the tone knobs work because of the addition of a capacitor into the circuit. Like position 3 with the S-1 switch down sets the neck and bridge pups in paralell, the middle pup is in series so essentially out of phase with the other two and you can dial in your sound with tone knob 2. A little goes a long way in shaping your tone in this setting.

Does Fender sell the S1 switching system for installation in a non S1 strat?

S1 takes a little getting used to but once you get used to it you can't go back :D

I think its ok. I've had my Deluxe for about a year and a half. I just the middle position with the S1 switch in when playing clean chords. I never use it otherwise.

Have had S-1 switching for just over 3 months. I wouldn't leave home without it!

I have an American Tele HH with the S-1 and the range of tones with the S-1 is incredible.

I had both 50th ann limited edition strats and the deluxe had the S-1 and I never really loved the tones from it, I still have the AMSE 50th and would never part with it, even with the limitations of only a five way switch, it has the strat tone to perfection!

So I guess it depends on your personal preference and style.

for my Tele it is a must have, for my Strat I'm more than happy without it.

Hello group, new kid here and was wondering the same as detronati, i.e. can the S-1 feature be added to other Strats. Liking the site already, lots to see, lots to read !

Cheers,

GuitarZon
