Does anyone know the specs on David Gilmour's candy red strat? I know it has EMG's in it but don't know what model they are or if there are any specific electronic mods. I saw Pink Floyd on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour and he played that guitar throughout the show and it sounded amazing. I just bought a couple of 2006 MIM strats and would like to duplicate his guitar.

Gilmour's candy red Strat is a 1983 USA '57 Reissue - I think that they were just called "USA Vintage" back then; the name "American Vintage" came later. These were among the last of the CBS-era Strats. Back then they used the same neck shape on the '57 and the '62 - it was kind of an elliptical "C" shape, not the "V" shape they use now.

Regarding the pickups - it's pretty easy to get what Gilmour has. EMG sells his exact rig as the "DG20" set pre-loaded on a pickguard - it inlcudes the three SA pickups, the EXP bass/treble boost and the SPC mid-range boost. One of these days I'm going to set up a Strat that way myself.

hi , ive just recently got back into floyd , so i'm setting up my 1985 mij 50' reissue for playing DG tunes , based on his black strat , i just ordered up a SD ssl-5 pup yesterday and i also just finished doing a final set up on the strat (action wise) last night . The action still isn't as high as snowy's DG sig strat but it's in a sweet spot for tone (no rattles) and just high enough for slide playing . I might have to change from elixer 10's over to the boomers , they seem to feel a bit looser for bends but overall i'm happy with the feel /playability , oh and i need to get a black scratchplate  cheers
Alan

Thanks for the info John, I looked at EMG's web site and found exactly what you described. They even have a video showing the installation. Very easy, as every thing plugs together with no soldering. Good luck with your project Alan!

I'd get my dirty mitts on a set if I had a CAR CIJ but I just don't like the pearly guard that comes with it.. :?
