I have been recently shopping for a Stratocaster and have been going to the local pawn shops. I found a 2002 American Stratocaster for a great price. $450. I am a little uneducated about Stratocasters so I want to make sure I am getting a good one. The serial # is Z2051740. It is blue. It has a few dings in the body, but everything else looks great. The blue color on it is the kind where you can see the wood grain through it. Rosewood fret board. There is no Fender emblem on the neck plate on the back. I want to make sure it isn't a knock off with a fender neck. Can anyone give me any advice? If you ask I might be able to give you more info about it. :?:

It is at the pawn shop I don't know if they will let me take a picture. If it is a Highway 1 won't the neck be different. Can I measure it or something? Are there more or less frets? I will go by there today to see if they will let me take a picture.

Yea, once I tried to get a serial number on a Paul in a pawn shop and the owner freaked... I told him I just wanted it to get the date of production and then he calmed down!

What does Jumbo Frets mean? THat is one of the differences from the Highway one to the standard. The standard has Medium Jumbo Frets.

Hello, I am in the same situation. There is a guy selling a 1989 USA Strat. The neck plate is blank. I took it apart and there is writing in black sharpie on the neck "Oct 28 R". On the body is written in red pen, "Oct-10 90". Also with writing in black sparpie, "S" with a circle around it and other undecipherable writing. Maybe you can take the neck off of yours and see if it has dating markings. This can probably be a safe way to validate the authenticity of each other's guitars? Email and I will send lots of pictures.
email rodney_perez@tnb.com for pictures.
Question:
1) When did Fender USA start installing the neck plate with the small hole to adjust the pitch of the neck?
2) Why did Fender offer some USA strat neck plates blank and the pitch non adjustable and some neck plates with the Fender logo with adjustable pitch in the same year? Or did they?

it is a 2002-2003.. i really can't be sure if it is a hwy 1 or not though.... i think it would most likely be a decent deal if it plays well and you like it

He freaked cause he knew it was hot and thought you were a cop.

It does have two roller string trees. I went and played it today on an old fender amp they had there. It sounded good. I am going to pick it up soon. I am going to offer them $400.
