Fender recently reintroduced the Roadhouse and Lonestar Strats as a part of the MIM Deluxe series, but not the eldest member of this hot-rodded range, the Big Apple. Why?

Consider the fact that there's and HH Stratocaster in the Black Top series. The original Big Apple started out as a Sam Ash FSR '48th Street Stratocaster' with neck and bridge Red Lace Duallys. I remember playing one in their Carle Place, NY store more years ago than I desire to.

Never seen any. Perhaps Chromeface can find one in his dark and dusty bins. I seem to remember that it was holiday season of the year..at least 15 years ago.

Do you've pictures? The only Big Apples I saw had a Pearly Gates in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. They were renamed American Double Fat Strats in 2000 and American HH with S1/Diamonback/Black Cobra in 2003.

Unlike the aforementioned FSR 48th Street Strat, the Big Apples, as well as their later variations lacked off the TBX.

Your years of issue and descriptions are correct. The Sam Ash guitar precedes that. The project likely gave Fender the idea of kicking off an HH Stratocaster as a production model. The evolution of the name is also an indicator. I've never seen a photograph of them. Just the memory of walking into the store and seeing this guitar hanging on the wall. First time I had ever seen the Red Dually's as well. I have no memory of whether or not there was a TBX in the guitar. For sure, my LS equipped TelePlus did not have one and that guitar appeared 7 years prior.

Almost all Lace-equipped guitars came with the TBX.

In the case of the 48th Street, the TBX affects the bridge humbucker whereas the neck humbucker has a normal tone pot.

Sounds like a hot-rodded Strat Ultra with two humbuckers!

Can't offer much more on the one I played. Ancient history by this time.

Did the 48th Street look like this black strat?

Yep...that was the idea, only the covers were red. That I can be sure of. As for the finish, that's hazy...but black would not have been out of the question for sure.

It's 1:25am on this side of the world and the day was busy. I'll look for you later on to catch up on your always excellent research.

Doc
