Would Love info on this guitar 89 EC Signature Series w/gold hardware, color of the body is 7UP green, pretty sure its real and a Real Beauty, what can you tell me. I am a newbie to fenders this is my first, 1st the fender name on headstock is that supposed to be a sticker ? The pickguard doesnt sit quite flush. All hardware being gold but the neckplate is gold color but blank, no fenderor any other writing on it, has the ashtray cover also in gold but with no writing . serial is SE928***, I believe made in 89, I read somewhere that these early claptons were sometimes known to have fancier appointments such as the gold hardware on my 7 up green strat in question. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

One more thing everything else seems to checkout , I.E. has Gold Lace sensors with TBX Knob, came with block of wood for tremelo, tweed case etc.

I have an '89 EC and I believe it is absolutely incredible in feel and sound. That being said, I have never seen even one with "fancier appointments" like gold hardware. Most likely a mod.

Ditto. The serial number on the back of the headstock is also relative. My '89 Pewter model has a very low SE9 numbered neck, but is stamped 4/90 on the neck end with a similar date inside the neck pocket. We've come to learn that Fender serial numbers are not to be counted on. As for the gold hardware, that's a new one. Best best is to have the guitar taken apart by someone reputable if possible. All in all, there's no arguing how awesome we Clapton guitar people feel this instrument is. BTW, candy green is becoming a rare breed.

Looks great with the gold hardware. Only inconsistency I can see is that this guitar's neck contains a biflex truss rod which is adjusted through a hole in the neck plate and yours has none. I would have expected that, were it factory original, they would have holed the neck plate for that purpose. Not everything from Fender is uniform. A dealer's special request might have yielded that guitar as we see it. Quite unique, and I am interested in Alain's opinion among others, now that the pics are posted.

Apart from having some who knows vintage guitars take it apart for authentication, suppose you send to consumerrelations@fender.com and tell them you have a Candy Green Eric Clapton Signature Series Stratocaster with gold hardware, serial number SE9..etc which appears to be rare given the hardware. Do they have a record of this guitar's manufacture and first delivery. It's a long shot in that Fender's record keeping at that date was less than rigorous. BTW: how did you acquire it?
