Hi guys!

I've been on the forum before, but just now getting back!

I have a question about my 93 MIA Black Strat. The neck is maple and is starting to what appears to be, chipping away on the bottom of the neck. My question is, is this normal for that year of strat? Is that just part of the aging? Also, what can i do to take care of it and let it age naturally?

Is it chipping away on the fingerboard? I have a '93 MIA Tele that is chipping away near the edge of the fingerboard by the high E string. This was my only guitar for years so I figure its just part of the wear process. I was not the best at wiping it down after playing it either. You can kind of see what I mean in the 3rd and 4th frets.

Yes! Although mine is all up and down the freetboard. Also, the blsck dots are loosing their color. They are turning a miilky color. If I can figure out how to post a picture, I'll show you what it looks like. What can be done? If anything? Or is this just natural for that period Fender?

My feeling is that it is just wear and tear on an 18 year old guitar.

If you keep the guitar neck in direct sunlight by a window or have greasy hands, that'll do it.

A few of my older maple necks look like that along the edge. A sign of being much-loved, I guess. :)

This is normal wear, and it will happen if you play any guitar long enough :) As for your dots turning the milky color, that is because the finish is starting to separate from the dots. This too, will eventually chip off! Don't worry so much about it. It should never cause a playability issue unless your frets are worn too low, and allowing more finger flesh to touch the board during bends.

If the finish on the neck chips a bit you can use fine grain snad paper to smooth it out. I just had to do that to my EC Strat.
