Well, I can't speak to the mighty mite, but the three bridge coils in my strat wired in series have a really ballsy sound reminiscent of an SG a little bit. Except it's higher output than that and has a really thick character without getting too muddy.

Incidentally soundcloud is back up.

Here's a couple clips of the strat:
http://soundcloud.com/cjmventer/v-tessellation-1
This first one uses an el capistan delay on one set of pickups and then both the delayed signal and the dry signal from the other set go into a pedal I had made for my by Young Pedals. Basically it pans two signals back and forth to two different amps but, unlike most panners, the signals actually cross over between the amps rather than just raising the volume on one channel while the other is falling. It also has the ability to change the phase on one channel so that your panning (which at its mid point has 50/50 mix of both signals in both outputs) is destructive in the middle and gives an interesting semi-univibe quality to things.

This second clip is in mono with a mixture of series and parallel between four coils (I think it's two sets in parallel and then the one signal in series with the other, but i could be mistaken.

I don't think i have a clip online of the three bridge coils together, actually...

Okay, so who's going to report on what these 3-coil humbuckers sound like?

That triple bucker is pretty cool. I hadn't heard of that before. I wonder how it sounds.

Meaty I bet. :D

Its wired with two outputs and the middle coil is RW/RP. Apparently its uses a couple of pretty powerful ceramic magnets so I reckon we could safely say its a "hot" pickup.

Regarding your Strat, 50 points for an outstanding number of combos! The proper geek in me would love to see underneath the pickguard and/or a wiring diagram. Such fun!

Cheers!

Andy

The Marauder's triplebucker pickup has a "rail" design. By far the hottest humbucker ever offered by Fender.

Looks pretty much like a Floyd Rose Sustainer distortion pickup. :)

BTW I guess Fender will add a Squier version of that guitar featuring DUAL triplebuckers in the bridge AND the neck positions soon!

I've only played the Hamers - both the original early 80s Prototypes and the 90s reissues (for some reason they called the reissues "Phantoms", which was the name of a different Hamer model from that same time period).

As I said it was really a regular humbucker and a single coil in the same pickup ring. You could select the single coil, both pickups, or the humbucker. When both pickups were on it just sounded like the difference between a humbucker and another slightly hotter humbucker. They aren't in the same pickup ring, but you get a similar sound from the Ernie Ball/Music Man Steve Morse signatures (both the original and the Y2D version) because they have a single coil placed right next to the bridge humbucker.

The triplebucker screams. The star of the show is the Jazzmaster pickup. It's punchy and smooth and sounds great through fuzz with delay and chorus for playing leads. One thing about the Marauder: It hums in every position except the humbucker position, meaning that the triplebucker does indeed hum.

What does the tripple humbucker do? How does it change the sound?

The pickup in triplebucker mode is fatter, smoother, less treble-y and quieter than the pickup in humbucker mode.

Interesting...

I own a '03 Les Paul Std. and a Tele with SD Jazz pickup (kind of like a '59 LP pick up) and I prefer the Tele pickup better. I love the sound of the LP, but it's a little too dark for me.
