Did you also plan installing the S1 switch to split the humbucker and a Passing Lane button to bypass the whole circuit and route the overall signal directly to the bridge position for a full-blown humbucking distortion?

That pickguard looks so cool! I never thought about housing an extra knob there. Nice.

Keep us posted and more pic's please!

Hi Andy

Thanks for the link to guitarelectronics.com I had been there before but forgotten about the site.

I need to weave together the clapton mid boost, the fishman pre amp and the humbucker, so I wanted a diagram of each to start work with. I have just been back there and picked up the HSS diagram

Hi shaky: you can't be saying that's your first attempt at routing, surely? Either way, that's a tidy job: respec'. I'm guessing you teach technology or some such, there at the Universtity of Somewhere in Southern UK?

If you are going to repaint the bod are you going to strip it first? And if so, any reason for not doing that prior to the routing?

Cheers - C

Hell of a job getting the holes in the sticky copper shielding to line up with the holes in the pick guard

Cheers C this is indeed the first time I ever picked up a router (apart from the netgear router but we won't go there)

Months of planning payed off. As Dad always said measure twice cut once. And of course I have a nice sharp tool!

I lecture in Visual communication, so Graphic Design, New Media. It's all design, creative thinking and careful planning. I'm glad to say I teach on a proper course not one that is just a money machine 8)

Adobe illustrator is a great tool to make detail drawings and to plan with. I made the templates for the pick guard and the router template using it.

I'm not going to strip the finish. The idea is that all the hard work has been done, I will just clean the surface with some 1200 and paint straight on top.

Sounds like lots of fun!

I believe you might have a minor issue with merging the FPB with the Mid-boost PCB*. I'll wait and see if you spot it first. Its nothing that we can't get around but I don't want to rob you of the joy of solving that one!

Enjoy!

Andy

Edit: * Unless your using the Fishman Powerchip (which you probably are)... I was blissfully unaware of Fishman's little active gizmo until a few minuets ago!

Thanks Andy, both worrying and reassuring at the same time. I do appreciate the 'we' concept.

That burst might be growing on me. :?

HA! No need for the "we" if you've got the Powerchip. I very much doubt you'll have any props putting that lot together. :D

Personally, I find there's very few things as pleasing to the eye as a Sunburst Strat with a Minty Guard and aged knob and pup covers....

..which is why I own that one. I say keep it!

Any-hoo, Carry on! :D

I didn't think it fair to use Fender because it is a Warmoth neck so the idea of Bender came to me. I hope it is taken in the string bending context rather than any other interpretation.

Well as we all know, this was the original Bender guitar:

Saweet looking build thread Shaky! Ohhh to have access to a laser cutter. My first home made pickguard was acrylic cut out with jigsaw and sanded back by hand... took a while to say the least :)

You're doing a fantastic job, keep it up :)

Thanks, the laser does open up a world of opportunities. The problem is doing anything without out it now. 8)

I did an aircaraft technician apprenticeship when I was 18. Our first job was to file a square hole in a piece of 1/4" metal, file a a square piece to go in it, mount both on a pair of 1/4" dowels and the piece was then tested by passing a feeler gauge down each side and the rotating on the dowels and taking the measurement again. We were allowed a 0.001 thou tollerance.

I got a reply from Fishman about wiring (same day). I don't think their wiring info for the Power Chip is brilliant but I have cleared up one issue at least. I have to fit the stereo jack socket. This entails boring out the back of the jack socket cavity to 19mm. The marks you see around the new hole are where I was testing by hand a few options bit wise. They suggest a spade bit. My concerns were that because the routed walls areen't flat but curved that whatever I put in there to drill with was going to bite on the sidewall and either rip a chunk of wood out or skid across the surface of the body :(

However the 20mm forstener bit made itself at home with the sides and gently bored a neat hole.

Hi Shaky!

I'm away from my pc at the moment and as much as I love my iPhone, it's not the best device to view or post to the forum on. So I'll keep this brief.

From what I can tell your mid-boost and powerchip wiring looks good, but your 5 way is wired unusually... Can you tell me what switching combos your looking to get?

Looks like you might be tring to coil split the HB? If so there's a few issues there. I'll have better look later.

Anyway, award yourself 50 points for a proper cool looking diagram! Did you use Visio?

Andy
