Blimey!

That pickguard looks so cool! I never thought about housing an extra knob there. Nice.

Keep us posted and more pic's please!

Cheers!

The pick guard is laser cut. I'm a uni lecturer and felt that the students needed a laser cutter... and it was Christmas and all and not being used. It doesn't do them any good to leave them unused.

Oooooo - green with envy! What fun I could have with a laser cutter. Can we - ahem - can you do fancy inlay stuff with it too?

What we are needing here is a truckload of photos, please, and plenty of explanation of what we are seeing. After all, a guy can't start a build thread on this Forum without understanding that there is a THIRST that needs feeding here! 8)

And talking of thirst...

The pencil rubbing for the cavity.

Spookily I used a piece of paper that has the working drawing for the headstock logo. I didn't think it fair to use Fender because it is a Warmoth neck so the idea of Bender came to me. I hope it is taken in the string bending context rather than any other interpretation.

Whoa, what a wonderfully beautiful axe! :D

Dude, it's that guitar you currently plan installing the Eric Clapton electronics?

With the humbucker in the bridge position the 25dB tone boost will enhance your things a lot!

Well we hope it will be, it won't be for a lack of trying.

Yeah, Clapton mid boost and then there's Fishman bridge!!!

Yeah I know a bit of a Frankenstein. People keep telling me you can't do this, you can't do that. It shouldn't have an extra knob, it shouldn't have a humbucker, you wont need the mid boost. Let's have a go shall we :D

Wait till they hear that I'm going to paint over the busrt, and then some

Ah-ha! So the extra knob is for the piezo bridge rather than the boost, is that right?

You just couldn't wait any longer for Fender to do their Townshend sig Strat, eh? Way to go. 8)

That's it C! I'm not sure the placement of the Townshend Knob is quirky enough, it just looks naff IMHO.

Wow, were talking about Townshend's knob here.

Well, that knob is what makes him unusual. There's nothing special about his nuts, after all. :|

Cheers - C

They did of course do the Power Strat which would have made a good starting point, but then I wanted the neck and it didn't seem much of a project. Would have been a lot cheaper of course.

I have no idea about the feasibility of this and whether it would work or even be practical, but how about a toggle swith for the fishman to activate it then use the existing tone knobs.
probably not feasable but would allow a natural strat look?
again, just the mutterings of a mad man (across the water, in New Zealand)

It is entirely possible but I rather like an extra knob! I think my plan is to make it look as though someone asked for this from Fender. They would probably have told him to p*ss off but we can do but try.

I'm not a fan of 'ickle' switches, looks a bit 'nurdy' to me but that is just me of course. The other thing is that you can belnd the magnetic and piezo for extra fun.

Back in 2004 the CS made a signature Blackie with the Fishman Powerbridge for Eric himself. But he never brought this guitar onstage and in the studio.

Rumours said Eric was fascinated by Pete's Fishman-equipped Strats and also wanted one.

Pete has recently modded one of his EC signatures with a set of P90s.

...and later that day

routing

The sun was out and its a reasonable temperature so outside we go.

The first cut wasn't the deepest - 5mm to be precise.

and the front side finished. I am pleased for a first attempt.

and the battery cavity

So we are ready for paint!

Spooky weather we are having, I thought I'd have to leave this until easter.
