That's a really interesting grain pattern on that fingerboard there! Going to be a fine project!

Unfortunately, you are now obligated to post pictures every step of the way. We DO love a good build thread. If you doubt us.....just a nice fellow named Ceri.

So Not as much progress as I would have hoped for but a step forward.

1). Router template fro the onboard Midboost

2). 3 ply mint pick-guard cut.

2). 3 ply mint pick-guard, need to bevel the edge now.

I am anxious to see the routing outcome. This is one thing I have never done. Watching with a lot of interest! :!:

Whoa - slow down!

You cut this unusual pickguard yourself, shaky? Talk to us about that - is that done on a CNC set up of some sort? Pictures please! And plenty more info.

Also, on the wooden routing template I'm seeing hints of burn marks around the edges of the cavities. Is it laser engraved or some such? Did you do it yourself or farm it out? How thick is that wood?

Questions questions. Speak to us, shaky! :)

Cheers - C

Ans:

The pick guard is laser cut. I'm a uni lecturer and felt that the students needed a laser cutter... and it was Christmas and all and not being used. It doesn't do them any good to leave them unused. The same for the router guide. The wood is 6mm but only because that is all I had. It is amazing, no totally accurate. If it doesn't fit it is down to the drawing.

The drawing took a month of research and about 50 seconds to cut. Its odd to watch such accuracy at such speed. I used pencil rubbing on paper to get the basic shape and hole positions and drew around a clapton pick guard. Its amazing how they all vary. Also I had no drawings for a bridge humbucker position etc etc. The Fender ones are for wiring purposes and I needed complete 'to the thou' accuracy because I'm nuts! (I did an aircraft techncian apprenticeship).

It took a while to press the 'cut button' as the piece of material didn't leave much room for errors as you can see.

I got the mint 3 ply because the guy who I farmed the original out to, made such a sh1t job that I asked for a piece to do it myself. I think he used false teeth to cut with.

Muahahaha, that's a remark to remember!

Loving your build fred, mate; been looking for some action around here. All I could write about is how to hoover my flat. 8)

Do you do any bespoke cuttings on that CNC of yours, at all? I know a guy who might be interested. Ta!

Merry building! Looking forward to seeing it grow.

Cheers,

Nutter
