If ANYONE has come to that realization....it is I!!

Regardless.....IHMO....the look of/coolness factor of the Highway One is light years above a US Standard Stratocaster!!
ANY ONE of my babies will decimate a US Standard and even some Custom Shop models!
Here we go again  .

Nice.

Like the scratchplate and the way that the polish has lifted the colour and made it much less flat. Did you find the finish to be very fragile before you polished it?

Good job.

I got a pretty long chip under the bottom horn, luckily it did not go all the way to the wood. Since I have been putting coats of polish on it, it holds up a lot better to minor bumps. I absolutely love my Highway 1.

You are right about this. However, when I bought my Highway 1 I could have bought an American Standard. In fact with all the modifications I have done to mine I could have purchaced an American Deluxe. But I saw potential in this guitar to become one awesome guitar. It has alway played real nice and the tone was always good. I added the Dimarzio SD in the neck because I wanted a little extra umph to the sound.

Yes, the Highway One strat is a great guitar. I have a 2007 and replaced the pickups with a set of Fender Custom Shop 69s. Man, the Jimi Hendrix Mojo on those pickups are unreal. Made a huge improvement in the tone IMHO.

Mine's a 2006 one (midnight wine finish, rosewood board), and I did the same.

The CS69 pickups really sing in this guitar. I also changed the machine heads for Schaller locking ones, which I've never regretted.

My highway one strat with a newly purchased American Special Strat. My 2007 highway one is a three piece body. The newer highway ones and American Specials have four piece bodies. I guess Fender is making them this way now. But, to my suprise, the Amerian Special I just got is a three piece.

I don't know if you can see the the two seams in this picture on the american special strat, indicating it is a three piece body.

I want to check out the new Highway One strats. I love the way they look with the large headstock. I am not sure about the jumbo frets. Guys? What you think about the new Highway One strats?
I read a good review that said the post 2006 models are better. However he mentioned the tuning machines are horrible and need replacement. I also read that the fret ends are Sharp and need adjusting or should be roles like the Standards. This means I will have to have a fret dressing and replace the tuners. The good part you can buy them new for like $650 which means I should be able to go into a store and buy the one that speaks to me.

I owned a Honey blonde version 2 Highway Strat & it was a great guitar. Much sweeter in the high end than my Am Std but still had that twang & snap you'd expect. It played great startight out of the box & had that cool 70s vibe. As mentioned elsewhere, it worked great with overdrive & distortion too.

Sold it, regretted it, want it back :x .

The best thing about Fender's upgrade of the Highway Strat, was the new sustain block. Original Highways had those thin zinc efforts you used to get in old Mexi Strats. The later models were considerably beefed up, thicker and heavier and it made a difference.

But i did prefer the old Highway headstock. Mine has the bigger 'stock, bulging with 1970s excess. But hardly a deal breaker when I bought it..

I got a honey-blonde version also. I've been happy with it, but I'm just a hobbyist and don't have a lot to compare to. I've had several other working musicians comment on it though.

Does anyone know if the guy mentioned on an earlier post on ebay is still selling those plates with, "Highway 1" on it? I was looking around and didn't see any.

Thanks!

I've outfitted all 9 of my Highways with this plate.
Here is the link to his auction.......it is such a nice finishing touch to these wonderful guitars!

I have a 2002 year model and I learned to play on that guitar, so I'm pretty sentimental about Highway One strats.
Anyway, as the years were passing I changed the pickups and the tuners to modify her to my needs and now she provides me all that I want from a guitar.
Like the light finish on these series, after few years of playing guitar looks 30 year old :)
Here she is:

Although I prefer the first style with the small headstock, I have never played one of these that didn't feel great. Tone wise they're pretty good too! I have been looking for one of these with the blond finish and small headstock...people must love em, cause they are not easy to find around here for sure.
