I just got it today and played for about 20 minutes and had to snap some quick pics with my cell phone camera so I could show it off! The lighting wasn't THAT great, and I'm not a super photographer, but I think you can get a feel for this one! I got it used from the Danvers, MA Guitar Center (saw it online and had it shipped to me in Arkansas...risky I know, but I got a good one!). Weighs about 7 or 7 1/2 pounds on my bathroom scale. Three piece body isn't quite as matched as I'd have liked, but I bought it to play (if I didn't like the way it played or sounded I was gonna send it right back!).

Got what I think was a great deal on it! My initial test drive was enjoyable, but I'm still getting used to it... I think it'll need tweaking of the pickup heights, etc. but I'm liking what I hear and loving the way it plays! :D

My project is a 3 piece body, in rough shape. It was made in 1984.

Hey skullz81, what kind of music do ya play and how is yours set up? I am interested in your string gauge, pickup heights and if your trem is decked, blocked or floating!

I played along with Thin Lizzy's "Emerald" last night and the Tone Zone really sang! Of course I was using my Digitech Gnx4 on a Thin Lizzy preset, too.... I was also working on Gary Moore's "The Loner" and it sounded really good as well. I need to work on the neck and mid SCNs this weekend...they're not quite "there" yet, but I have read they are pretty sensitive to height, etc...

Looking forward to your feedback!

I tend to keep my ToneZone pretty low and the SCN's at around average height. Not high, not low. It seems to be about the best volume balance whilst keeping some clarity on the SCN's. Which in truth aint that badly sensitive to height. It's more that they are a balanced pickup with more mids than most single coils. The secret to getting all them pickups howling is to keep the mids up on the amp. No point having em present at the pickup to lose em in the amps eq. May as well garner a good sound based on that strength.
Mine goes into one of a few Marshalls and has significantly less treble than my LP with Burstbcker Pro's. I use .010"s and have my trem set so the open G string pulls up a minor third to B flat.

Hey gang, thanks for the ongoing input!

bluesstrattone: appreciate your amp settings, how's your axe set up? :?:

Nikininja: thanks for sharing your settings. :D I have my CP50 trem setup in essentially the same way but haven't tried that with a vintage trem. Any tips? I generally use D'Addario 10s and three springs. My trem claw is straight (edge is parallel to the body route), not canted. I find the CP50 works flawlessly set up in this fashion.

As I mentioned in a previous post I bought this used online from Guitar Center. I emailed Fender Customer Service and found out it was made in March of 2007 (thanks Cameron!). The action is set lower that Fender factory spec so I get some slight buzz and lots of snap when I pick/pluck. Not sure what strings are on it, but they may be the original Fender 250s, everything else on it looks factory fresh (all the plastic still intact, case candy unopened, etc.). I got it for a song and knowing that I was buying it online without a chance to test it out, I wasn't sure what to expect. Boy was I happy when it arrived and it was factory fresh! Props to Charlie at the Danvers, Massachusetts Guitar Center!

I'm going to spend the weekend tweaking, etc. It REALLY sounds a lot different than my other strats, but I attribute that to the highly resonant body and the pickups. FWIW, I am comparing it to a MIM Robert Cray strat and a MIM Classic Player '50s strat (CP50). Both of them are stock but have been tweaked by a luthier (frets polished, etc.).

I've never had SCNs or a humbucker in a strat before so that's obviously taking a while to get used to. I haven't been able to dial in any real vintage tones either, but realistically it's called a hot rod for a reason! Sure does the 70s rock tones well (at least the bridge does). It's gonna be a fun weekend!
