I have a 96 Tex-mex Strat with a Vintage Trem. Can someone tell me what size hex I need to adjust the string saddles? I can't find one in my arsenal.

Thanks in advance.

Typically 1.5 mm for the MIM (like the JV), .050 for the MIA.

Mine is the Tex-Mex Strat, before it became the JV Tex-Mex Strat. Yours looks like one, too. Nice looking axe! I can't see for sure, but does it just say Fender Stratocaster on the front of the headstock?

That's all it says on the front. The back of it has it's S/N, MIM, and 50th Anniversery Sticker. What's interesting is the frets are 25 years old and seem like they've never been polished but do not show fretwear. In fact, the entire guitar has little to almost no signs of being played except for a nice size hole on the bottom of the guitar below the pickguard. I think it was a closet queen for a long, long time.

Mine has the Fender 50 sticker on the back of the headstock, too. Same axe. But my frets are only 15 years old. (2011-1996=15)

I have adjusted my saddle grub screws for a long time now with a small jewelers flat head screw driver :D To heck with fussing with the the allen wrenches! Look at walmart for the Stanley screwdriver set that is in a yellow plastic case and contains 6 small, yellow handled screw drivers! I promise you will never look back!

Don't bugger up your set screws, use the right tool for the job. The proper sized Allen wrench will only cost about a quarter or less. Anyone that wants to work on guitars, or anything else for that matter, should get a small set of metric and SAE Allen wrenches, you could even just buy the four of five sizes commonly needed for guitars (1.5 mm, .050 inch, for saddles, and 3/16 inch, and 1/8 inch for truss rods). And make sure to loosen the string quite a bit for the saddle that you want to adjust so that you don't ruin the set screw or put divots in the bridge plate while adjusting.

Be sure to use good quality allen wrench like american made. Use of cheap tool will fit loose on your screws and damaged it. Not too bad for saddle screws easy to replace but what about truss rod head screw dammaged ?

That is great advice. Never want to use bad tools because they destroy parts! Allen wrench's can be found at walmart, home depot, lowe's, sears, etc...

Those year we are invaded with import low cost and cheap tool, but some are high quality tools.

That is why I'm looking first in American made tools. After I look at import. In case of truss rod allen wrench I check to be sure the tool fit tight in truss rod nut. If not I return the tool for a refund.

I found that Fender Alen wrench coming with the guitar is cheap, at leas those I test. You can strip your truss nut
