I have a 2010's American Standard HSS Stratocaster. Actually I regret buying it a little. Now I desire to get the old classic Strat sound (like Gilmour's).
Is it possible to get that sound by changing my current pickups with "Fender Vintage 57/62 Strat Pickups"?
Or do I have to sell the guitar and purchase an old Strat?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome.

You don't have to sell the guitar. Rather, right off, lose the humbucker. As to your pickup set choice, the 57/62 pickups were reverse engineered from a real 1961 Strat pickup so this should get you in the realm of your requirements.

+1

The Custom Shop '69's are also a very nice sounding set of pickups.

If you want the old strat sound the 57/62,s and an old Fender amp and you got a winner. I think its more the amp than anything.

My wife made me watch that to. I was thinking the same thing.

Stargate Atlantis meets Jurassic Park meets Inspector Clouseau ... with enough wooden actors to keep Fender in business without sacrificing another tree to the guitar gods

My drummer said of a particularly wooden actor (Jack Lord), "If you look very closely, you can see Danno's lips moving when McGarrett's talking..."

Well if you want that "Gilmour" sound you have to say "which Gilmour sound?"

The 57/62s or the CS 69s will get you to that "typical" Gilmour sound for say up through "Wish You Were Here". The Black Strat has had a bunch of different pickups on it, but mostly the original late 60s pickups (or possibly the pickups from a circa 1970/71 black Strat with the bullet-truss rod/3-bolt neck originally bought as a backup to the original 1968 or 1969 "Black Strat").

For "Animals" and some tracks that might have made it onto "The Wall" the bridge pickup was a DiMarzio (I forget the model; check out gilmourish.com for details). During "The Wall" sessions the DiMarzio was swapped for a custom Duncan pickup that they currently sell as the SSL-5 model. Supposedly by this time the neck and middle pickups were the ones I mentioned from that circa 1970/71 Strat, not the original 68 or 69 pickups.

On the Gilmour CS guitars I belive they are using a CS Fat 50s neck, the middle is wound for the guitar, and the Duncan SSL-5 bridge pickup.

He has used stock '57 and '62 reissue Strats on some things from say 1984 on; that candy apple red '57 reissue has had the EMG set on it since around the "Momentary Lapse of Reason" era (not sure if it was used that way on the album or if it was modded for the tour).

I have both 57/62 and cs 69s
Albeit the 57/62 has a mid rwrp pickup.
I'll start with the 57/62, these pickups give me a clean
sparkly strat sound. They have the right amount of low end,
Mids, and highs provide great spank in the in-betweens.
Cs69s right off the bat the mids are pretty much scooped
The middle pickup is not rwrp , great sounding cleans,
They remain with note definition even with mid to high overdrive.

Now as reference in sound think John mayerish tones
With the cs69s, 57/62 pretty close to srv tones IMO.

Ps both are great and vintage sounding.

The Gilmour sounds I like the most are the ones in the solos of "Coming Back to Life" and "A Great Day Freedom" in the album P.U.L.S.E. The guitar he used in that album was the candy apple red '57 Reissue Strat if I'm not mistaken.

However I mentioned Gilmour just as an example of the vintage Strat sound. I also love John Mayer's and SRV's sounds and they might be even better examples if I mentioned them in the first place.

My main concern is to know if I can get an old vintage (whichever) sound without buying another guitar just by replacing my current pickups.

Okay - to nail the Gilmour sound of that era then you'll need the EMGs - they were in the guitar by that point.

However, since you say you're more into the Meyer/SRV sound then the 57/62s will get you where you want to go pretty well.
