Hi all, anyone shed any light on this guitar? And what it's worth? Is it genuine, something doesn't feel right about it to me...

http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 500wt_1156

The link in the description describes this as "The Mary Kaye Strat" and says only 40 were made by the Japanese custom shop??

Thanks

I'm not sure what that is. I wouldn't bid on that guitar. Seems sketchy. Sorry I can't be more specific and let you know for sure what's really going on here. Definitely not like any Mary Kaye I've seen.

Well, it appears as if the guitars going to sell cheap, so even if its a fake, you won't lose any money.

OTOH, I wouldn't touch that guitar with a 10" pole. The one thing that it isn't is a genuine Mary Kay!

The serial stamp was correct. no waterslide and maybe it is just a custom. I'd get rid of the gold hardware and switch to regular pickups though. Just go for it.

I let it go. Something didn't feel right to me. I think I only wanted it cause it was described as being rare and seemed like an investment.

But i'd rather put my money into something I can use. And truthfully I really want another Japanese E-Series. :D

Thanks for the help guys.

It's not an investment the same way a 1996 Custom Shop Cunetto Mary Kaye would ever be. It may well not increase in value, in fact it may well depreciate.

However aside from the pickups that guitar is very genuine. Fender Japan are a law unto themselves as to what they produce. Leading to some very interesting, quality instruments.

If you ain't having it, I will. Well ok, if the missus lets me.

The pickups were interesting, 25th anniversary, sonically matched and hand numbered, only 125 sets made. But I didn't go for it in the end.

As I said i'm on the hunt for a nice E-series $@!...preferably a HSS as I have a 62re-issue SSS and it's amazing! Truly an amazing guitar!!

Ah the joys of not being married :D

465 quid ... I wouldn't have paid half for that, as for a 62 strat beware of Jeff in Princeton, he likes to pass off '62 chinky gender fuitars as the real thing.

Never!

I liked the look of that Strat. Personally, I'd say it was worth it even if it's not genuine at the price- case is £80 on its own, neck is a further £150, electronics would've cost 'something', body about £70+ depending on condition...

Either way, I'll keep an eye out for you Mike. No sweat. If I do get bored of Blue Lagoon, I'll let you know!
