Hi.

Just have to say I just got my first fender, my dream guitar, and couldn't be happier. I've been wondering about the weight though. My guitar weighed 3,6 kg on my first weigh in, is this a normal weight? And how many pounds would that be?

Love, wyldelife

That would be about 7.9 pounds, very normal. 1 kilo = 2.2 pounds.

Congrats on the new Strat, you really should post pictures.....or we might not believe you.

+1..very normal weight. But I wonder what all the fuss is about with the weight of a guitar? If the guitar plays and feels good, sounds great, balances well, and isn't ruining your back......who cares!?!?!? :D There are so many factors that play in to overall tone...most are myth, others only contribute slightly to the overall tone, and it is a combined effort of many factors that get you good or bad tone.

In all truthiness, I play on a beat up marshall mg 15 dfx. I know this is one of the suckiest amps out there. I know what tone I like, but that's only secondary to how I want my guitar to feel like and how much I want to improve my technique on a guitar I love. That's why I bought a 1900,- guitar instead of buying a new amp. I was curious due to all the buzz on the internet, I wanted to know how much mine weighed. Thank you so much for the answers :)

My 2011 American Standard HSS weighs 8 lbs (3.64 Kg). My 2007 Highway 1 weighs 7.5 lbs (3.41 Kg), neither one is extremely heavy for me. Although they are not the lightest guitars I have ever played, they are 2 of the best guitars I have ever played. :)

Well, theres a whole other group of players who believe, for good reason, that the guitar's weight has an important and audible effect on the way the guitar sounds, as does the density of the wood.

I'm always searching for those especially light guitars, because I appreciate the the livelier resonance and aliveness that light guitars tend display. Of course those vibrations pervade the instrument and get transfered to the pickups, so the whole system is effected. What goes around, comes around.

You're free to believe what you will but if you think thats a myth... Well, thats nuts!

I'm not nuts! I am just saying I have played heavy guitars that sound incredible (like my old '70's Strat) and I have played light guitars that have sounded like banjos. Weight alone has nothing to do with how a guitar will sound, it has to be combined with other things, like good electronics, a good setup. Sometimes, regardless of weight, electronics or anything else, some guitars just never quite move you. That's why I say forget the weight, just find a guitar that feels good in your hands and sounds great to your ears! When looking to buy your next "main" guitar, pick the model you like, then play every one available until "the one" makes itself known to you ;)

Yeah, it's all good!

I truthfully never expect to snag one of those 6 1/2 lb superlights but after having the guitars I owned in the 60s and 70s, I'm simply overjoyed to own the stuff I have now.

Compared to those days, even todays junkiest axes are fine instruments!
