Look all i'm trying to say is, how many times have you read a post that indicates "MIM strats are just as good as MIA strats, MIA strats are not worth the extra cost". We all know it's some guy who couldn't afford the MIA, and is just trying to boost his ego. The MIA strats are Fenders flagship guitars and that's the bottom line. You own an MIA strat, you own the real McCoy.

Most of these arguments/discussions are either a person's personal experience or opinion. Overall, the person is probably stating something he found to be true, not trying to justify being either (1) less affluent or (2) more thrifty. That type of gear snobbery will get you nowhere fast.
I also dislike those threads, but I have the perfect method for dealing with them: I IGNORE THEM.

Quote:
Personally, I own three MIJ strats. I used to own two MIAs, but I sold them to buy more MIJ strats. I love to play them, and I don't need someone else telling me, they are better or worse than MIAs or MIMs. I like how my MIJs play and that's all that should matter.

Since MIA Strats are the real McCoy, are your MIJ's the fake McCoy, or one of McCoy's illegitimate siblings?
If all that matters to you is your feelings about your axes, then allow everyone else the luxury, respect and right to express themselves about their axe(s).

Personally, I could not care less where an instrument is made (and I own guitars that are MIA, MIM, and elsewhere...not just Fenders, either).

How an instrument (1) feels/playability, (2) sounds, (3) looks (in that order) is all that matters to me.

Armadillo is right man.
I for one love the LUXURY of being free to exchange opinions here.
Fascinating, McCoy´s illegitimate offspring...

My problem is, sure, I´ll ignore some posts, but if a thread says KILL on it, I gotta look!
If you ask a kid, are these milliwatts or kilowatts? he´ll go -KILLOWATTS!

I just love the name callin´on these issues man.

So I already posted above about my chinese squier being utterly blown away by a MIM of recent make. Damn I had high hopes for that bastard offspring. :P

Next up, when I visit my kids and bring back my ´89 MIJ Strat I will challenge that evil MIM Strat again, and then we´ll see about the land of the rising Sun. Them old pickups is nice and phat! KILL!

cheers, Mike.

Personally, i dont care where a guitar is made, or even whats written on the headstock. My most used strats are all builds from parts, the only ligit Fender strat i own sits in a HSC in a closet. But I've noticed these threads are never started by MIA players saying that the MIA is no better than the MIM or MIJ's.. its always a MIM owner saying its just as good as the American....

For full disclosure; the only ligit Fender Strat i own is Mexican made, though that's not the reason it isnt played, the ones I built obviously are built for me, so they suit me better.

Thats exactly what i was saying. Im not against freedom of speech, i just think its overkill with the same ol topic. But from the number of replies on this post, i can conclude that most dont mind seeing that topic again and again. My bad....i thought i wasnt alone on this one. Guess ill just keep my big mouth shut and ignore "MIM vs MIA" topics.

Look guys...

The best way to kill those topics is not to respond to them. My presumption is that 60% of them are from Trolls and theres no reason to get into an argument, for someone else's amusement.

OTOH, IMHO, most of the posts crowing about the fact that a MIM is as good as or better than a SIG or a CS, are being made by delusional children. I have both, I know the difference and the differences are significant both materially and financially.

My pet peeve? The guys who go to every forum on the net and ask the same questions over and over and over.

This is war man! KILL!

I think Fender has one of the best market research depts. out there. Their line of products is so very cunningly planned. My respects and admiration go out to all involved! I am sure they take pleasure with all the controversy we raise. There is a certain fog about the MIM, which fosters sales. It´s so great that there is a divided opinion out there!

I don´t know if I am trollish, but I do love pitting guitars and pickups against each other. When I visit someone and see a Fender, I´m ALWAYS curious to plug it in!
If it gets wet´n´wild on the Forum I admit to reading with delight man. :P

I understand those who don´t have the bug to A-B everything. Right now I would just love to go out and compare every compressor pedal out there and start a most esoteric debate. But while that´s kind of a pipe dream, comparing axes whenever I can is a great sport.

For the record, I have my beat up Chinese Bullet Strat, 2 superb MIJ Strats from ´89 and last year I was finally able to aquire a CS Strat. I am looking to buy a MIM Strat and so I am out hunting. I am sure I will find one to make me proud.

I usually wonder how many of these debates actually involve guitars that are used to gig with.
I am starting to think that most of the members here are fantasy rock stars, banging away before their parents tell them to knock it off because it's past their bed time...then while lying awake before drifting off to dreams of the stage, they believe they know the attributes of a guitar, usually theirs, that put it far ahead of all others....and that they are real musicians.

+1

My corral has eight Strats and none of them are MIA -- most of them aren't even Fenders by some folks' definition here on this forum. I couldn't care less! I built each of them for a specific purpose and they all see regular stage duties seven or eight days a month and twice that time at rehearsals. And not once has a guitar player ever said to me "Gee why don't you buy yourself an American Strat?". The fact is, most people who've seen, heard, and had occasion to play one of my instruments end up becoming my clients. Some have MIA's, some MIM's, others MIJ/CIJ. It doesn't matter to me -- they're all good. But when I get done working them over, every one of them is better.

When I play to an audience,no one ever comes up and asks is that Strat a MIA/MIM/MIJ whatever....the other guitar players there,(and there's always players around here),they usually ask questions about the vintage amps I use.
And then the rest of the crowd just likes the music and is having a good time.
You know how it is.,because you're a gigging musician.

I have two 2004 MIA Strats that are identical and have serial numbers within 150. One is LPB and the other is white. Before I swap the necks, and loaded pick guards to satisfy my hunch that the difference in their sound is due to the difference in their colors, I was going to ask if anyone else has noticed this, and which one must I leave at home when I gig?

I think most of these debates are started by either trolls or bedroom wankers who never played a gig or recorded a single note in their entire lives. Musicians who gig, play instruments that are what they want, and use them when they want and don't give a ratsass who says what about them. I don't buy any equipment because it's the hippest or the latest sig guitar at the time. I buy what to fill a need that I have. Guitars, amps pedals, I don't care as long as it fits MY needs. I'm not brand or model loyal. The gear snobs can sit in their bedrooms and garages and wank away and criticize people about where their gear comes from while I make money doing what I love for people who like to hear me play.

Yeah Rebelsoul, maybe you're right...

Maybe you do know more about the world and how it works than anyone else does. Maybe you do know more than the luthiers who build guitars and the players who have become successful playing them. Maybe someone like you who supposedly gigs with his guitars should be raised up to a position from which he can tell the rest of the universe "Exactly how it is" while we sit quietly and listen to The Master.

But on the other hand, Eric Johnson is a gigging musician too but he, unlike you, somehow believes that his instrument is an essential part of his craft. He also doesn't pontificate on INTERNET forums and he doesn't tell anyone else what to do. All he has to do to get our attention, is to plug in and play!

Lets see now.... Should I believe what Eric Johnson says and my own ears or should I get in step with some unknown voice on the Internet?

Well,,, I thought about it for a microsecond and I'll go with Eric or at least a hundred other guys, before I'll take you or your angry, condescending posts seriously. Oh And Supro's comment about gear snobs? Most of the gear snobs I know, are rabid music fans. You know, the common folk who grease the wheels for all of you pompous rock stars! ROFL!!!

All that said, I do want to thank you for the opportunity to choose!

When I built my Telecaster, I made sure to look for a headstock with plain logoing (not showing the serial/country made) because I don't want people to immediately judge off of the country.

I just hope no one is searching these posts trying to determine which guitar is better for his/her needs.

Other than that, its just plain entertaining.
