Hey!

So I have this Starcaster by Fender body and I would like to make my own guitar with it. But I'm a begginner and I could use you help ;)

Does a Fender american strat neck fit the Starcaster body? And a MIM bridge?

I would like also to install the EMG DG-20 (loaded pickguard) on my guitar.

Is this a good idea or just a waste of time and money?

Thank you

Welcome.

The dimensions of a Starcaster aren't the same as a MIA or a MIM Strat. Chances are overwhelmingly against the components you named fitting properly. FWIW, the Starcaster series (and PLEASE don't take offense as I surely mean none) is one step above a toy. It would be a colossal waste of time and money to attempt 'upgrading' one. Your best bet is to outright buy a MIM Strat and adding the Gilmour setup to it.

Thank you very much for your advice. So not even the body is utilizable? Since I would change almost everything including the neck, pickguard, pick ups and bridge I thought it would be a nice guitar...basically I'm getting rid of all the $@!&#* parts

The starcaster body is just not made with quality. I would bet that a lot of stuff would be off, and for the money I think it would be better starting off MIM strat and going from there.

Or, what I've always wanted to do is get a really nice body from Warmoth or something and make a one-of-a-kind strat for me, maybe with like flamed maple top and burst finish... no pickguard and gold hardware... that might be some time in the future when I can actually invest the money in such a project...

Check out some squier models too... especially the classic vibes. Those are actually pretty amazing guitars stock...

You are quite welcome. No, not even the body is worth your while for it is surely one of the crappy parts to be gotten rid of.

On a semi-related matter: Squier guitars/components oftentimes do not retrofit with those of an outright Fender. As previously stated, your best bet is getting a MIM Fender as a platform for your modifications.

Hi Joa.
The Starcaster would make you miserable.
Find some other use for it. Turn it into a cool ashtray or something.

Get an MIM Strat, or a CV Squier and don't waste your time with the Starcaster. Ain't worth time, effort or money.

I also recommend a Classic Vibe Squire. You get an insane amount of value out of a CV Strat or Tele when compared to other mid entry level guitars. I even believe that although these guitars are meant to be around the entry level they are such a quality instrument that I would gig with one after a setup. I bought my brother's Classic Vibe Tele Custom for $120, changed the pots and switch to CTS and replaced the bridge pup with a CS '62 (which I found wasn't really that necessary- I just happened to have one on hand) and that Tele has become a favorite of many of my friends and my new band mates. I believe I could have left it completely stock and it would retain the same high opinion amongst me and my friends as it has garnered after the upgrades. If you're looking to replace the pickups and whatnot then I would go with the cheaper Squire models, but if you want something that you can setup and play with immediately I highly and completely suggest the Classic Vibes.

joaovazter,

Building your own guitar (even with you already having a body) will cost as much as or more than a new American Special. I would say to save your money and buy yourself a nice quality guitar.

On the cheap end, I would not go with anything cheaper than the Squier Standard. As mentioned, once set up and intonated correctly, it makes for a nice platform guitar for modding. If you want a guitar that you can buy without having to immediately upgrade, the following guitars are good as is:
1. Squier Classic Vibe 50's or 60's
2. Blacktop
3. MIM Standard

Guitars you don't have to modify at all unless for personal reasons:
4: MIM Deluxe
5: American Special or Highway 1 (if you can still find one)
6: American Standard
7: American Deluxe

As mentioned above, you would end up paying just as much money to build a guitar utilizing that Starcaster body and buying premium parts as just paying for a guitar that will run $800.

If you really have your hopes to build a guitar from the ground up, use a nice after market parts dealer such as Warmoth or Mighty Mike. But going that route, you could just have the Custom Shop build you one.

Don't waste you time, okay? Seeing that you're a beginner , might I make some reccommendations for you? IMO, the best guitar for a beginner, is the Squier Standard Stratocaster, not the Infinity but the Standard. They sell for $230.00 brand new and are IMO, just as good as a MIM Standard once intonated and setup properly. The squier Standard Telecaster sells for the same price and has the same quality as the Strat. Trust me on this, you won't regret it.

I'm not a begginner guitar player, I've been playing for 7 years...I'm just a dummie in guitar parts.

I have a collection of really nice guitars so thank you all guys but I DON'T WANT ANOTHER GUITAR, I just want to make my own :D
The only problem is that I'm not an expert in that matter (actually I never really minded, I just wanted to play) so that's why I started this thread and that's why I'm gonna follow all your advices and make my DIY guitar with a MIM body or maybe a custom body from warmoth.

Thank you very much for not letting me spend my money in vain.
