Hey all,

I was just wondering if there's some rule of thumb when it comes to domestics vs exports Fender Japan Strats; was it just the earlier serial numbers that are considered domestics? Any way to tell them apart? I'm assuming there's probably a lot custom models and what not that are meant solely for the Japanese market, but I'm curious about the standards and how to tell which ones were meant for where. Any help is much appreciated.

I believe it's the official model designation that determines where a MIJ/CIJ instrument may be sold. Those guitars with an "EX" as part of their nomenclature are intended for export. You may have to disembowel a guitar to confirm its pedigree though -- there'll be an ink-stamped alpha-numeric inside the neck pocket which should reveal all.
