Ive set up 4 John Mayer strats; they seemed like MIM strats more than US built. All had some shoddy QC on them.

The Black 1 is a sweet looking guitar, you should be able to find one either on Sweetwater, Guitar Center, or Musician's Friends' web sites.

They are in high demand and I played one at a store when they first came out and they fricking amazing but at the time I wasn't a serious guitar player looking for different tones so i passed on it due to the price.

About 10 years ago, a mate of mine had a standard strat with a rose wood neck. He changed all the hardware out to gold and whacked a mint pickguard on it. Sure he put a lil 59 in the bridge, but apart from that I remember thinking "What an ugly looking setup".

I've learnt alot about taste in those 10 years, he was obviously a couple years ahead of the curve as far as tastes go.

I wonder what setup he's using now :)

These guys in the UK "appear" to have one ..

Good luck!

PS. I have one and it is definitely a special guitar. Wasn't fussed on the gigbag though - too big and bulky, so I sold it and bought a nice Tolex case instead.

We established recently that, even though still listed in the products section, the guitar is no longer available from the factory, so where this 'one' turned up is interesting.
As noted, a careful look at the specs and the photos in the products section certainly reveals a glaring disparity in the neck alone. Caveat emptor!!

due to the popularity, I dont think you will find a black one that isn't way over priced :? to me as far as feel, build quality and playability it is still just a 1400 mayer signature guitar  but be careful there are a tone of fakes of that particular guitar.
