I have an upgraded Highway One Stratocaster with the 6-screw vintage tremolo. I've been asking around and I've heard from some people that installing locking tuners will help in the tuning stability. They say that the LSR nut isn't as helpful as most will think, but the locking tuners seem to work best for them. How do the tuners work? Is it easy to install? Or if anyone has another remedy, please share it.

You could try this first. I have an original 72 Strat with a floating trem and never had any real tuning or neck stability problems. I usually just take a #2 pencil and rub some of the graphite in the nut. This will help keep the string from hanging in the nut. Also, be sure to properly stretch the strings. This is seriously important. Also if it's floating, be sure the gap between the body and trem is correct. I believe it's around an eighth of an inch.
Good Luck.

I have also tried using graphite on the nut and stretching my strings. It does help a lot, but the G, B, and light E strings tend to get out of tune with mild to moderate usage of the tremolo. The spacing should be right also. I don't really dive-bomb or do anything that's out of whack, but I do use the tremolo a little more extreme than just a wimpy vibrato. Some vintage trem bridges that I have seen and tried seem to stay in tune after heavy usage of the trem. Could it be my tuning posts? Or maybe the string trees?

Try some graphite under the string trees too. What gauge strings do you use?

I have locking tuners on my American deluxe. Man they are fantastic. I can tune the guitar and leave it out on a stand for a week and come back and still nearly perfectly in tune (using Strobosoft)

I have the Fender Locking Tuners on my MIM Strat. I'm new and don't really use the trem. But the tuners are extremely easy to install. When you change strings just remove the old tuner, one nut, and replace it with the locking tuner. Maybe add 5-10 minutes to the string change. Then changing strings is a snap. Pull string through tuner. Lock it down with thumb screw on back. Tune up as usual.
