Seems like I run into other signature strats., but never a Mark Knopfler. I have never seen one hanging on a wall at any music store. It seems like MK strat. is always on back order on line. Are they popular or just not produced in volume? I had read that MK decided to have the ash body drained of all its moisture to achieve the correct weight. Does this process take a lot of time or is hard to do, thus not allowing for many to be produced? Also why did Fender change the color of the case from Brown to Black? No big deal, just wondering.
I think it looks like a cool guitar. It has all the right stuff I am looking for in a strat. Any thoughts on MK Strat.?

You actually have music stores where you live? Every one of them around my area is going out of business. And none of them are Fender master dealers, so no Knopfler strats. It's pretty sad to see, but luxury items are the first to go in an economic downturn. If anybody has ever been to Hame's Music in Gaffney SC in the last 15 years, you would be shocked if you walked in there now. Gaffney is starting to look rough, but at least they don't have pawn shops and liquor stores every block...yet. You'd think some revenue would be generated to renovate the downtown area with that big outlet mall.

I agree with your assessment regarding music stores. It seems the major music stores just have junk hanging on the walls. I feel good about making a special order for the MK strat. at my local shop. My local music shop has a small but nice selection of guitars. I was impressed that he had several different limited edition 60th Telecasters hanging on the wall. The guy is a great Fender dealer. Always trying to support the small local guy who trys to keep good stock.

I suppose that everybody who wants a signature start, will be OK to order it. The others might now want a signature strat, so why have it in the store?

Just my 20 cents.

For me, an MK Strat would have a 1-piece maple neck without face dots, 22 frets, two gold dome knobs, master volume, master tone, SD Alnico Pro (neck/middle), SD SSL1 (bridge) and three toggle switches for pickup selection.

I imagine Mark's signature guitar as an exact replica of the famous Schecter CAR Strat he used during the 1980s and the early 1990s.

Of course everyone can make his own Fender replica of the red Schecter. Pick a CAR AVHR57, throw in a preloaded guard with Seymour Duncans, gold hardware, two dome knobs, three toggle switches, a Mighty Mite birdseye maple neck with side dots and become a local hero!
