Hi I wonder if someone could help me. I bought a 4 year old strat on ebay and it arrived in perfect condition. It was advertised as an american standard but I'm not sure if it a special strat. It comes in candy apple red in a deluxe hard case with fender strap, cloth, trem and the bits but for some reason I'm not sure, it's quite light too compared with my friends mexican. Plays really nice though but I'm no expert.

The Ameican Special has a big headstock, 6 point tremolo, jumbo frets, and Texas Specials if SSS and/or Atomic humbucker if HSS. The American Standard has a smaller headstock, medium jumbo frets, classic alnico II if SSS and/ or Diamondback humbucker if HSS, and a 2 point tremolo. The case and case candy usually comes with the Standard and the Special usually comes with the deluxe gig bag.

If you still are not sure a pic of the guitar would help us see which model it is.

They were not making the Fender American Specials series strats 4 years ago as far as I know.
