Hi there,

I am new to playing guitar and thought I would pick up the Rock Band 3 Stratocaster for 360. I am having an issue tho where some stings don't recognize when I pluck them. I was playing through the tutorial levels fine, the E and A string plucked just fine, but anything below that did not work at all. I am wondering if there is anything I need to do to make them work properly, or if guitar is defective and in need of a return. I put new batteries in and the same problem persists. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hey, congrats on picking up a squier rock band guitar.I think that's the greatest guitar to start on for both value and features.Anyways, Yes I know what your talking about. It pisses me off to the high heavens that I cannot solo properly to songs I already know verbatim.First, make sure the neck pickup is touching the strings to where you cannot hear the pitch.I suppose it's the midi(fyi I also have used the midi functions with software if you need help there to).I guess though if it happened to me and also you it could be honestly either the guitar or the game I am not sure. It's not perfect but I know it's dead on for the rythmn parts.Let me know if you have any other ?'s

Kinda what you get for buying a toy instead of a real instrument.

Well yeah it is a toy but it works pretty well. And if you're starting out this is a great way a person could get hooked in guitars.I would never trust this live but it's still cool!

I am having the exact same situation.

The guitar worked fine for awhile, but now only the 1st string (high E string) works. All other 5 strings are dead on MIDI.

I bought the guitar 2nd hand over craigslist, will Fender give me any support on this at all, or am I out of luck?

Ok, plan B, say I wanted to get this fixed, can I bring the guitar to a fender dealer, or would I have to ship it to Fender directly.

Does Fender still do work on this guitar after discontinuing it?

Thanks

Probably highly unlikely, since
(1) It's a toy
(2) it's a game oriented recreation of a guitar...Maayybeee
(3) Fender is a trademark and an instrument manufacturer but it does not build these.
(4) These should go back to the same company that built them, probably some Sega or Electronic ?? whatever..

This is not a real instrument, does not have tuning keys, real strings, is not made out of wood mostly and is an expensive throw-away toy. You press down on a certain spot and get a digital sound repro.

Not to be rude but for the amount of money spent on the peripherals needed for this game, you could have bought a Squier Affinity Strat with a small amp, strap, cord and a beginners book for well under $250.00 You can find great chord books or actually how to play various style books at Barnes and Noble in their discount sections for $8.00 to 10.00

If you wish to learn how to play and where to go and what to buy for your 1st decent guitar, we'll all be more than happy to help you, since this is a Guitar Forum of which we all play an instrument, not an X-Box or PS-III game toy....

Sort of like buying a blow-up doll instead of going on a real date..

While I agree with you for the most part 53magnatone (especially that this is the wrong forum anyway), I believe that the 3 is a "real" guitar, with strings and everything, that also works with the game.

For those having trouble with the guitar, there might be some help here:

I added to the OP that we would be glad to advise him set himself up for a nice First guitar.
I do however hope he isn't 12 or my joke hopefully went over the top...

Fender was good when I had an issue with mine (came with a saddle with stripped threads). One email to customer service and they mailed me a few new saddles.

Can't hurt to email them.

Other than the unusual fretboard, string mute, and funky pickup it's still a strat.

Any tips on where to email them? The link to Support at the top of the page doesn't seem to lead to any email address.

I'm actually doing academic research at a university, involving MIDI guitars, and this one and the YouRock come in at the entry level (Roland, etc., do more expensive options).

Despite its brief appearance, this guitar actually had potential in that it was an all-in-one real guitar plus MIDI guitar (perhaps the only of its kind even to date). However as I'm sure Fender became quickly aware, there are numerous hurdles involved in accomplishing such a solution to justice at a low price point.
